4 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME 2019 OUR PROGRAME PLEASE NOTE THAT: We deliver our educational programme in a variety of different ways including; York Dungeon Tours, City Tours and Workshops which are all designed to meet the needs of the pupils. Our programme has been created by collaborating with experienced members of the educational sector in order to meet the different needs of the pupils. Due to our diverse programme catering for different key stage groups it allows us to align the content within the parameters of the national curriculum. Content within each activity can be tailored to your pupils’ learning needs providing that this information is given before the visit so we can adapt accordingly.

8 TOURS KS2-KS5 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME 2019 THE YORK DUNGEON TOUR Discover 10 live shows as you explore 2000 years of fun on our interactive tour. Featuring 10 live actors, immersive sets, stunning special effects and plenty of surprises. Key Stage/Age Group: Key stage 2 - 5 (Age 8 – 18) Duration: 75 minutes. Subject (s): Vikings, The Plague, Guy Fawkes, Torture, Crime and Punishment, Execution & Highwayman. Relevant Combinations: City Tour, Deadly Drama Workshop & Viking Drama Workshop.
TOURS KS2-KS5 9 NATIONAL CURRICULUM LINKS: • Pupils should develop a chronologically secure knowledge and Understanding of British, local and world history. (KS2) - Vikings, the Plague, Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin • They should note connections, contrasts and trends over time. (KS2) - Torture and Crime & Punishment • They should use historical terms and concepts in increasingly sophisticated ways. (KS3) - The Plague, Execution, Crime & Punishment LEARNING OUTCOMES After the tour pupils should: • Gain a fundamental understanding of the chronology of events between Saxons times up until the ghost stories of the Golden Fleece in Victorian times. • Be introduced to famous faces of York’s murky past and be able to articulate their thoughts and feelings about said characters. • Understand basic connection between local, regional, national and international history.

TOURS KS2-KS5 11 YORK CITY TOUR Venture into the city of York with our guides visiting key landmarks such as Clifford’s Tower, The River Ouse, York Castle, Shambles & Minster, as we open up even more secrets from the city’s murky past. Key Stage/Age Group: Key stage 2 - 4 (Age 8 – 16) Duration: 60 minutes. Subject (s): Romans, Vikings, Guy Fawkes, Dick Turpin, Torture, Crime and Punishment & Execution. Relevant Combinations: City Tour, Deadly Drama Workshop & Viking Drama Workshop.
TOURS KS2-KS5 13 NATIONAL CURRICULUM LINKS: Pupils should be taught about the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England. (KS2) - Saxon King Aella and the blood eagle. Pupils should be taught about a study of an aspect or theme in British History. (KS2) - Torture and Crime & Punishment. Pupils should be taught the development of Church, state and society in Britain 1509-1745. (KS3) - Religious persecution between Catholics and Protestants . LEARNING OUTCOMES After the tour pupils should: • Gain a fundamental understanding of the chronology of events during the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England. • Be introduced to famous faces of York’s murky past and be able to articulate their thoughts and feelings about said characters. • Understand basic connection between local, regional, national and international history.
WORKSHOPS KS2-KS4 Deadly Drama & Viking Drama
16 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME 2018 DEADLY DRAMA WORKSHOPS Students will get into character and learn from the professionals. This is an interactive workshop with a dungeon twist as the students become the characters from the tour. Key Stage/Age Group: Key stage 2 - 4 (Age 8 – 16) Duration: 60 minutes. Subject (s): Performing & Techniques Relevant Combinations: Dungeon Tour, City Tour, & Viking Drama Workshop.
WORKSHOPS KS2-KS4 17 NATIONAL CURRICULUM LINKS: • All pupils should be enabled to participate in and gain knowledge, skills and understanding associated with the artistic practice of drama. (KS2) • Pupils should have opportunities to improvise, devise and script drama for one another drama and theatre performances. (KS2) • Pupils should show understanding how the work of dramatists is communicated effectively through performance and how alternative staging allows for different interpretations of a play. (KS3) LEARNING OUTCOMES After the workshop pupils should: • Understand and use performance skills such as voice projections, role play and inner workings of characterization
18 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME 2019 VIKING DRAMA WORKSHOPS This workshop combines history, theatre and creative thinking. They’ll discover sagas and the Skalds of Viking history. The Students’ voice, physicality and characterisation will combine to create Viking personas that delivers a mighty performance to the whole group. Key Stage/Age Group: Key stage 2 - 4 (Age 8 – 16) Duration: 60 minutes. Subject (s): Performing arts techniques & the Vikings Relevant Combinations: Dungeon Tour, City Tour, & Deadly Drama Workshop.
WORKSHOPS KS2-KS4 19 NATIONAL CURRICULUM LINKS: • All pupils should be enabled to participate in and gain knowledge, skills and understanding associated with the artistic practice of drama. (KS2) • Pupils should understand how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources. (KS2) • Pupils should show understanding how the work of dramatists is communicated effectively through performance and how alternative staging allows for different interpretations of a play. (KS3) LEARNING OUTCOMES After the workshop pupils should: • Understand and use performance skills such as voice projections, role play and inner workings of characterization. • Have fundamental knowledge of Viking lore and traditions.

Toilets: We don’t like spillages – so ask our staff to use before the tour starts Access: We welcome all guests with disabilities, please email to discuss requirements.* * Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate electric wheelchairs due to the buildings’ historic nature and layout. However we do have a manual wheelchair for any guest with mobility requirements to use throughout their visit.
