Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 6, 2022 My brothers and sisters in Christ, A Mass for the healing of the sick with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is offered every First Monday at the 12:10 PM Mass and the 7:00 PM Spanish Mass. The next one will be this Monday, February 7th. February is also the month in which the World Day of the Sick is marked (Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day, February 11th). Saint Pope John Paul instituted the World Day of the Sick thirty years ago to draw at- tention to the needs of the sick and promote health care and pasto- ral care for the ill. We who live in the Boston area take health care for granted. We go the hospital to get better. In many parts of the world, you go to the hospital to die. We can get upset when we have to wait for a medical appointment or refill for a prescrip- tion. The Saint Pope knew that a large percentage of the world’s inhabitants can never get an appointment or have access to a drug prescription – never mind a refill. Yet we in Boston and our par- ish have to keep reflecting on what we are doing for the sick. Last fall, we had a meeting to restart home visits to the sick and home- bound. The recent waves of COVID have complicated that. The priests in the house started visiting Marist Hill weekly for a com- munity Mass but that has been suspended since the beginning of PARISH PROJECT FOR NEXT CHRISTMAS the year. We still cover Newton-Wellesley Hospital about 10 days As mentioned in earlier bulletins, a parish project is underway to a month and have once again been called to minister to a few pa- plan an exposition of nativities for next Christmas. Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 6, 2022 THANKSGIVING TO GOD FOR GENEROSITY Last weekend’s storm and cold conditions gave us an extra reason AFTER SCHOOL CORNER to give thanks to God for the generous donors of the parish. Last by Maria Schellinger summer we were able to replace the church boiler because of the generosity of some parishioners. The new boiler has had a few On Thursday, we celebrated Mass after one month of minor blips but we are starting to feel the improvements from the not seeing each other. It was beautiful to see the old boiler. The church was comfortable for worship even with the low temperatures. Also, during the blizzards and thunderstorms of children in reverence on the altar. On Friday, we went years past, when the wind was howling sideways, rain water and to Adoration and some of the children who haven't snow would run down the walls of the apse sanctuary and make received their First Communion yet were able to help puddles on the floor. They will have to be fixed at some point; the church is a never ending project). Again, I give thanks to God for those of you who made donations for the window restoration and repairs. And I thank all of the pa- rishioners who continue to donate and support the parish with your weekly contributions. It is key to making this whole project stay on course. New boiler!
