Prayer of the Faithful

Let us bring our prayers for the needs of the world to the One who can strengthen us and
who is faithful without fail.
For God’s holy Church as we continue to bear God's Word to every corner of the world in
the face of hardship and persecution, let us pray to the Lord.
For corporations, manufacturers, advertisers, and all who profit from Christmas marketing, that they
may acknowledge the true source of their wealth and treat their workers justly, let us pray to the Lord.
For the safety of those who travel during this holiday season, for good health for those families that
are gathering, and for blessings on all families unable to gather
this year, let us pray to the Lord.
For those who are struggling to make the Christmas holidays a
joyful occasion for their families, let us pray to the Lord.
For those who are discerning their vocations, that, like Mary, they
will be able to hear and respond to God’s invitation to them, let us
pray to the Lord.
For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19, let
us pray to the Lord.
For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all
our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.
Faithful and loving God, you keep your promises from of old.
Graciously hear these our prayers and grant them according to your will,
through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, whose coming we await, and

Gathering
When Pope Benedict XVI visited the United States in 2008, tens of thousands gathered in Yankee Stadi-
um to celebrate the Eucharist with him. What made them different from all the other excited crowds who have
assembled there through the years? When they began to sing together, to listen together, to pray together,
they ceased to be a crowd, and became a liturgical assembly. It was not where they were but what they did
that set them apart. The Gospels speak of many instances when Jesus prayed alone to his Father. But Je-
sus also put a special value on communal prayer. “Where two or three are gathered together in my name,” he
told his disciples, “there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). Jesus gave his own mission to his follow-
ers, sending them forth to do everything he did: to heal, to teach, to proclaim the kingdom. Jesus wants us to
meet God in and through each other. So the Christian community continues to gather, Sunday after Sunday.
When we get up on Sunday morning and come to Mass, we respond to Jesus’ invitation, and we express our

Following is a statement from the bish-
ops of the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Orange, regarding COVID-19 vaccines.
The Bishops of the Roman Catholic Dio-
cese of Orange fully support the California
Catholic Conference’s statement on the
COVID-19 vaccinations. After thorough
research and reviewing the statement
from the Pontifical Academy for Life, we
find the vaccines morally acceptable and
imperative in the ongoing effort to curb
the coronavirus pandemic. We are hope-
ful and encouraged by the promise these
scientific breakthroughs represent, and
urge the 1.3 million Catholics in Orange
County to take any and all appropriate
steps to protect themselves and their fam-
ilies. We pray for them as we pray for the
world.We still have much work to do, but
we now have hope and a path forward
rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus
Christ. We place our trust and confidence
in the providence of God.”

20 Tháng Mười Hai—Không Nhà Không Cửa
Hiện nay trên thế giới có khoảng một trăm triệu
người không có nhà để ở. Riêng tại Châu Mỹ La Tinh,
có khoảng 20 triệu trẻ em đang ngủ đầu đường xó
chợ. Nhìn chung, có một tỷ người trên thế giới không
có được một nơi ở tươm tất.
Trên đây là kết quả của một cuộc điều tra dựa trên
những con số do các Hội Ðồng Giám Mục và các
Giáo Hội Công Giáo địa phương cung cấp. Cuộc
Kính Chúc Quý Ông Bà, Anh Chị Em: điều tra này do Ủy ban công lý và hòa bình của tòa
Gíáng Sinh thánh thực hiện và ấn hành thành lập một tập tài liệu
vào dịp cuối năm quốc tế những người không nhà
An Lành và Hạnh Phúc không cửa do Liên Hiệp Quốc khởi xướng năm 1988
vừa qua.
Theo tập tài liệu này thì vấn đề nhà ở chắc chắn là một trong những vấn đề trầm trọng nhất của thế giới ngày
nay. Tài liệu cho thấy những kẻ không nhà là những người nghèo nhất trong số những người nghèo và tố cáo
những người chủ nhà chỉ vì tính toán thủ lợi mà thà bỏ trống những căn nhà hơn là hạ giá để nâng đỡ những
kẻ không nhà.
Chúa Giêsu đã chào đời như một con người không nhà không cửa.
Ngài đến là để cho con người được sống và sống một cách sung mãn. Tiếng kêu khóc chào đời của Ngài giữa
khung cảnh cùng cực của hang lừa máng cỏ, là tiếng kêu than của hàng triệu triệu trẻ em đang bị tước đoạt
quyền sống, đang bị từ chối những điều kiện cơ bản nhất để được sống như con người.
Máng cỏ mà chúng ta đang chuẩn bị ở nhà thờ hay trong gia đình phải là một nhắc nhở cho chúng ta về sự hiện
diện và tiếng van xin của không biết bao nhiêu người không nhà, không cửa xung quanh chúng ta. Hơn ai hết,
người Việt Nam chúng ta đang nhìn thấy tận, mắt thế nào là cảnh lang thang đầu đường xó chợ.
Chúng ta chuẩn bị một trú ngụ cho Hài Nhi Giêsu, chúng ta có nghĩ đến những người cùng khổ xung quanh
chúng ta không?
Chúng ta có biết rằng khi chúng ta nhắm mắt làm ngơ trước
đau khổ của người anh em chúng ta là chính lúc chúng ta
khước từ Chúa Giêsu không?
Chúng ta có biết rằng ngày Giáng Sinh của Chúa Giêsu cũng
là ngày Giáng Sinh của những con người cùng khổ nhất
không?
Chắc chắn Chúa Giêsu sẽ không bao giờ đến trong máng cỏ
hào nhoáng của chúng ta, nếu chúng ta xua đuổi những người
khốn khổ xung quanh chúng ta. Trích sách Lẽ Sống
