Saddle Rock Enrichment Spring Trimester (March 27 to June 9) Course Information: 1. Time: 8:00AM to 9:00AM. 2. Courses start the week of March 27th through the week of June 5th. 3. No classes: April 3-14. May 29 4. Class make-up: Week of June 12th. 5. Registration fee: $100 per course, unless otherwise stated in description. 6. March 19th Registration Deadline Date. Each course requires a minimum of ten registrants to run, unless minimum # is otherwise stated. 7. No Refunds after March 19th. 8. Class sizes are limited based on teacher request. Early registration is recommended. AM Enrichment Class Offerings: 8:00AM to 9:00AM Tuesday Title: Introduction to Spanish Teacher: Jamie Steuerman Grade(s): 3rd – 5th Day: Tuesday Fee: $100 Reg. Max: 15 Description: Students will learn the basic skills in order to have a conversation with each other. There will be many fun activities to acquire these skills including using technology to enhance lessons. For example, Students will learn what to say when greeting someone, ordering food, and acquiring vocabulary around a school and family setting. Students would also learn some of the Spanish culture along the way! Title: Mindfulness, Movement and Mud Teacher: Rosemary Sloggatt Grade(s): 3rd - 4th Day: Tuesday Fee: $100 Reg. Max: 15 Description: Designed to get the morning off to a good start. Each session will begin with meditation and focused movement followed by clay work. Each participant will create a finished (glazed and fired) ceramic artwork to take home. *Students should bring their own yoga mat. All other materials will be provided.
Thursday Title: Clay Capers Teacher: Rosemary Sloggatt Grade(s): 3rd – 5th Day: Thursday Fee: $100 Reg. Max: 15 Description: Calling all kids who like to get their hands dirty! We will learn all the basics to hand building clay. Students will learn basic hand building techniques like pinching and coiling. There'll be plenty of time to ask questions so everyone, even complete beginners, will feel at ease. Title: How to Speak French Teacher: Adriana Hematian Grade(s): 4th – 5th Day: Thursday Fee: $100 Reg. Max: 15 Description: Bonjour! Hello! Have you always wanted to learn how to speak French, but you simply can't wait until Middle School to take French as a language? Well worry less because in this French course for beginners, Mrs. Hematian (or should I say, Madame Hematian) will teach you conversational skills, vocabulary, basic grammar, cultural information, pronunciation, and writing all in French. Students will be able to speak and understand basic French phrases, while having fun. In this course, students will use hands-on and engaging activities to confidently speak French. Learning French has never been easier before! It's like duolingo, but in person! Please note that this program is not designed for students who already speak French. Title: Newspaper Club Teacher: Nicole Scicolone & Samantha Wharry Grade(s): 4th – 5th Day: Thursday Fee: $100 Reg. Min: 16, Max: 24 Description: Students will create a school 'newspaper' that shares the whereabouts of Saddle Rock. They will have the opportunity to showcase their writing and drawing skills through interviews, articles, comics, jokes, etc. An article will be published once per month and distributed to the entire school. Students will work together to design the layout and proofread before publishing.
Friday Title: Introduction to Hebrew: Ready, Set, Alephbet! Teacher: Gabriella Duke Grade(s): 3rd – 4th Day: Friday Fee: $100 Reg. Max: 12 Description: Get ready, get set to learn the Alephbet! This Hebrew language enrichment course is designed for new beginners without prior knowledge of the language. The focus of this course is on teaching students the Hebrew alphabet, or Alephbet in order to read and write in Hebrew. Using hands-on and engaging activities, students will learn to recognize and pronounce all characters of the Hebrew alphabet, as well as learn the accompanying vowel system. Once letters are mastered, time permitting, students will begin to decode and spell simple words and sentences. Students will also learn to spell their name in the course. Vocabulary will be introduced in conjunction with course activities. Students who have previously taken the class are welcome back to further increase their learning experience. Please note that this course is not designed for students who are already Hebrew readers or who are looking to improve their Hebrew conversational skills.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 1. March 19th Registration Deadline Date. 2. Payment is by Credit Card through MySchoolBucks, check or money order only. 3. Payment by MySchoolBucks, which adds a 3.95% processing fee, guarantees placement at time of registration. 4. Paying by Check or Money Order must be received within three business days after registering online or risks automatic cancellation of that course(s). 5. A $10.00 processing fee will be deducted from any refund requested prior to the registration deadline. NO REFUNDS after the program registration deadline. 6. In the event of program cancellation due to low enrollment a full refund will be issued. 7. If the district closes operations due to inclement weather or any other reason, enrichment programs will be cancelled for that day. All reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule cancelled programs. 8. Parents are responsible for transportation. 9. Register on-line through FamilyID https://www.familyid.com/great-neck-school-year-enrichment-programs 2. To find your program, click on the link provided by the Organization above and select the registration form under the word Programs. 3. Next click on the blue Register Now button and scroll, if necessary, to the Create Account/Log In blue buttons. If this is your first time using FamilyID, click Create Account. Click Log In, if you already have a FamilyID account. 4. Create your secure FamilyID account by entering the account owner First and Last names (parent/guardian), E-mail address and password. Select I Agree to the FamilyID Terms of Service. Click Create Account. 5. You will receive an email with a link to activate your new account. (If you don’t see the email, check your 6. E-mail filters (spam, junk, etc.). 7. Click on the link in your activation E-mail, which will log you in to FamilyID.com 8. Once in the registration form, complete the information requested. All fields with a red* are required to have an answer. 9. Click the Continue button when your form is complete. 10. Review your registration summary. 11. Check or Money Order payments, print registration summary and include a copy with your payment (check or money order, made out to “Great Neck Public Schools”) mailed or dropped at: The Phipps Administration Bldg. 345 Lakeville Rd. Great Neck, NY 11020 C/O: Recreation Dept. 12. Locate the blue Submit button. After selecting Submit, the registration will be complete. You will receive a completion email from FamilyID confirming your registration. At any time, you may log in at www.familyid.com to update your information and to check your registration(s). To view a completed registration, select the Registrations tab in the blue menu bar at the top of your screen.
