Small group size of 12-16 students per instructor Outward Bound Singapore: - pioneer in Singapore’s outdoor adventure - strong track record to deliver quality outdoor adventure programmes - leading practices in risk management and safety - instructors supported by dedicated, professional medical staff during programmes - supported by SCDF & Police Coast Guard Emergency Medical Services
Priority on (a) Pre-Course Medical Screening Safety and Well-Being Your child/ward will need to be certified fit by a medical doctor to attend the MOE-OBS Challenge Programme. Why is there a need for medical screening? - To establish current and accurate health status to determine individual’s suitability for programme - To determine how best to provide a suitable level of care, especially for individuals with existing conditions - To help parents make an informed decision on child’s/ward’s participation in programme based on current health status of child/ward
Priority on (b) During Course Safety and Management of your child’s well-being Well-Being What are the measures put in place? - Instructors will conduct daily and pre-activity check and will monitor your child’s well-being. - There is a 24-hr medical centre in OBS with nurse practitioner on standby to provide medical support. - MOE-OBS will carry out/seek any medical treatment deemed necessary to maintain your child’s well-being.
Some administrative information: - Ensure ALL fields in the Course Registration Form are completed IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Medical Check up for all students will be held in school on 17 &18 Sept from 2:30pm- 5:30pm - 17 Sept: 2A1, 2A2 & 2A3 - 18 Sept: 2/1, 2/2, 2/3 &2/4 - Cost of medical check up will be borne by school - Tetanus Injection will be paid by students direct to the doctor during the check up. *Parents to note: - Medical check-up has to be done within 6 months of start date of course. - Parents must acknowledge medical report before consenting to child’s participation
Share with your child the purpose of the programme. Emphasise the importance of working together to achieve team goals. It’s not about winning but working together. Things you Help your child to set goals for themselves. What do they want to achieve from this programme? What can do to strengths do they have that they can tap on? help your Encourage your child to maintain a positive outlook, be receptive child: to advice and feedback. Be brave in facing the unknown and stepping out of their comfort Pre-course zone to take on new challenges. Role model what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle. Bring your child outdoors and exercise with them. Have fun and enjoy the whole experience!
Reflect with your child on the progress he/she has made. Ask your child to share his/her experiences, what went well and what did not, etc. Acknowledge your child’s feelings and accomplishments. Celebrate their successes and talk about areas he/she did not do as Things you well. Encourage your child/ward to talk about how he/she feels on can do to achieving or not achieving a goal. help your Reflect with your child on lessons learnt (both positive and child: negative experiences) during the programme. Help your child to apply what he/she has learnt in daily life. Post-course Affirm your child’s effort to make positive changes. Help your child to set new goals for him/herself and work towards achieving them. Encourage volunteerism. Provide opportunities for your child to contribute to society.
