Programme Type Career Opportunities INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes: National Qualifications are credit bearing qualifications registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body. Provider Programmes are unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Agent Programmes are programmes and qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate). Career Structure 1. Your fundamental subjects form the foundation of your course and are compulsory. 2. Your core subjects constitute the 2nd level and are compulsory. 3. Your electives contain subjects that are either optional or compulsory on various levels. Instructions are outlined with regard to which levels are applicable for you to select subjects. About the Credit System Upon completion of these courses, students may qualify for Credits towards either UNISA degrees or BTech Degrees from TUT. Bridging Certificate in Criminal Justice This course is designed to give you the basic knowledge to start building your career in the Criminal Justice sector. The Fundamental and Core subjects will introduce you to topics that form the basis of jobs and careers in the South African Criminal Justice System. Programmen Type The Bridging Certificate in Criminal Justice programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance requirements Grade B Security Officer's course or Grade 10 (Std 8). Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months Course Content Fundamental Subject • Criminal Justice Communication • Mathematical Literacy • Life Skills (Introduction to Ethics) • Computer Literacy Core Subjects • Introduction to Criminology • Introduction to South African Criminal Law • Statute Law • Law of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Assessment You are required to hand in written assignments. On successful completion, you are eligible to complete the 5 required exams. You will receive an exam guide with your study material. Please refer to this for your dates and processes. The exams are at an additional cost and must be paid before each sitting. Award On successful completion you will receive your INTEC Bridging Criminal Justice Certificate.
Foundation Certificate in Criminal Justice The Foundation Certificate in Criminal Justice requires you to carefully consider your choice of an elective. Your choice will relate to the career direction you would like to specialise in. Programmen Type The Foundation Certificate in Criminal Justice programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance requirements • INTEC Bridging Certificate in Criminal Justice or • INTEC Security Supervision Certificate or • Grade A Security Officer’s course or • Grade 12 (Std 10). Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 18 months Course Content Fundamental Subject: • Communication and Life Skills Core Subjects Legislation: • Introduction to South African Law • Indigenous Law • Procedural, Constitutional Law and Evidential Justice Community Criminal Justice: • Community Safety • Restorative Justice • Investigative Criminal Justice Criminal Justice: • Criminal and Crime-Related Justice • Pro-active Criminal Justice • Criminology & Victimology Electives: (complete 1 elective) • Correctional Criminal Justice I • Policing I • Traffic Law Enforcement • Private Security • Metro Policing I • Military Policing Assessment You are required to hand in written assignments. Criminal Justice Certificate When you complete all the electives in this course, you will have the knowledge to start your career in Criminal Justice. Programme Type The Criminal Justice Certificate programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance requirements • INTEC Bridging Certificate in Criminal Justice or • INTEC Security Supervision Certificate or • Grade A Security Officer’s course or • Grade 12 (Std 10) Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 24 months. Course Content Fundamental Subject: • Communication and Life Skills Core Subjects Legislation Criminal Justice Correctional Criminal Justice I Metro Policing I Traffic Law Enforcement I Policing I Electives: (choose 1) • Community Criminal Justice • Private Security • Military Policing Assessment You are required to hand in written assignments. On successful completion, you are eligible to complete the 8 required exams. You will receive an exam guide with your study material. Please refer to this for your dates and processes. Criminal Justice Diploma Consider your choice of electives carefully in the Criminal Justice Diploma as they will relate to the career direction you would like to specialise in. Programme Type The Criminal Justice Diploma programme is a Provider Programme. Advanced Criminal Justice Diploma In the Advanced Criminal Justice Diploma course you will need to complete all the electives below, as it will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skill for your career in Criminal Justice. Programme Type The Advanced Criminal Justice Diploma programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance requirements • INTEC Certificate in Criminal Justice Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 36 months Course Content Core Subjects • Correctional Criminal Justice II • Policing II • Metro Policing II • Traffic Management • Business Ethics • Advanced Criminology • Leadership Management • Penology • Military Law Assessment You are required to hand in written assignments.
