SIC SUMMER ACTIVITIES 2021 Shetland Islands Council Sport & Leisure Service are delivering a range of summer activities and working with a number of clubs to promote physical activity opportunities. In this leaflet you will find the activities listed along with any information you may need.
SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION AGES Where a school year age is specified for activities, this applies to the school year that your child has just completed. BOOKING Unless specified otherwise, all activities can be booked by calling Islesburgh Community Centre during open hours (01595 745100) or emailing islesburgh.reception@shetland.gov.uk You will be required to complete and return a consent form for all activities (except Picnic and Play in the Park). This will be emailed to you after booking. Information will be held for safety purposes only and deleted once the summer programme has ended. COVID GUIDANCE Please adhere to the following guidance when dropping your child at any of our activities: Please ensure your child uses hand sanitiser at the entrance. Please drop off and collect your child at the entrance to any indoor activity venues. Exceptions to this can be made if your child has Additional Support Needs. In this instance, please use the available sanitiser and wear a face covering. Please drop off and collect your child within 5 minutes of the start and end times for activities. When you are in attendance or dropping off/collecting your child, please maintain a 2 metre distance from members of other households. COST ALL activities in our booklet are FREE this year! We are grateful to the Scottish Government and Sportscotland for 'Get Into Summer' funding which has enabled us to expand activities and offer them at no cost. CANCELLATION If you wish to cancel a child's place please let us know as soon as possible by contacting Islesburgh Reception on 01595 745100. Capacity for activities is limited, and this will enable us to offer the place to another child if there is a waiting list.
PICNIC & PLAY IN THE PARK A variety of sports and games for all the family. Bring your picnic and enjoy your lunch alfresco. Note our new venue! WEDNESDAYS KING GEORGE V PLAY PARK (King Harald Street, Lerwick) No need to book! 7th July to 11th August Just turn up! 11am to 3pm NETBALL & RUGBY ROADSHOW TIMES/AGES FOR WEST MAINLAND, Children can take part in either CLICKIMIN, BRAE & SANDWICK activity or both (where appropriate age group sessions are offered). NETBALL RUGBY Netball will be indoors, with rugby on the pitch outside. Sessions are led by P1-2 9.30 - 10.15 Sport & Leisure staff. OUTDOOR MULTI SPORT FUN! A fun outdoors session for the bairns P3 - 5 09.30 - 11.00 which may include rounders, frisbee, dodgeball and more led by SIC Sport P6-7 11.30 - 13.00 & Leisure staff! YELL TIMES UNST TIMES Pupils are invited to take part in fun dance sessions with Sula Brookes! It P1-4 10.15 - 11.00 P1-4 11.15 - 12.00 is recommended to book on all 3 sessions to build up a dance routine P5-S4 11.15 - 12.15 P5-S4 10.00 - 11.00 but not necessary. YELL LEISURE CENTRE 27th July, 3rd August , 10th August UNST LEISURE CENTRE 28th July, 4th August, 11th August UNST DANCE WORKSHOP Pupils are invited to take part in a fun workshop with Matthew Lawrence and Nursery visiting dance instructor Sophie & P1 10.30 - 11.15 Whitmore! The younger session will take the form of a musical theatre class, while P2-5 11.45 - 12.30 the two older age groups will try some street dance! P6+ 12.45 - 14.00 UNST LEISURE CENTRE Monday 16th August GYMNASTICS TASTERS A fun gymnastics taster session for P1-7 pupils delivered by coaches from Shetland Gymnastics Club! Please book on one session. CLICKIMIN LEISURE CENTRE Monday 28th June Monday 2nd August 4.30 - 5.30pm
RUN, JUMP & THROW Tokyo Olympics is just round the P1-4 10.30 - 11.30 corner and these fun run, jump and throw sessions will give the P5-S2 11.45 - 12.45 bairns a chance to try some athletics. Book one or both! YELL LEISURE CENTRE Wednesday 7th July Wednesday 14th July FENCING CAMPS Fun two day camps where P3-7 pupils YELL LEISURE CENTRE will learn the basics of fencing and have 28th and 29th June : 10.00 - 12.00 lots of fun! Sessions are led by Phil Hibbert of Shetland Fencing Club. UNST LEISURE CENTRE 28th and 29th June : 13.30 - 15.30 SANDWICK GAMES HALL 27th and 28th July : 10.00 - 12.00 SANDVEIEN NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE 27th and 28th July : 14.00 - 16.00 BRAE GAMES HALL 11th and 12th August : 10.00 - 12.00 WEST MAINLAND LEISURE CENTRE 11th and 12th August : 14.00 - 16.00 OUTDOOR ADVENTURE DAYS Participants will need to eat a decent breakfast before they go, bring warm Enjoy the wild outdoors with our outdoor clothing, packed lunch and a drink. Outdoor Education team. If participating in a Get Wet Day, they will need spare warm socks and a towel. They P7 - S1 Get Wet Day should arrive wearing swimwear under their (Coasteering/Canoeing) clothing and will be changing outdoors. FREE GROUP OUTDOOR DAYS! AVAILABLE DATES Formal and informal groups are welcome to book an Outdoor Adventure Day on one of the Outdoor Education team's available dates. Sessions are offered JUNE: 28th, 29th, 30th to groups of at least 6 people from P7 to age 25 (there JULY: 1st - 7th, 9th - 14th must be at least one adult aged 18 or over with any AUGUST: 9th, 12th - 15th group.) The maximum group size is 10 (including group leaders). Specialist instruction, equipment and transport are included. Get Wet Day On Land Dry Day Tuesday 10th August Wednesday 11th August COME TO BRAE DAYS Head to Brae and enjoy a full weekend of fun activities for all the family to enjoy! PEDAL LERWICK - A SUMMER CYCLE It's back! Come join us to enjoy the chance for the whole family to enjoy cycling on closed roads around Lerwick!
