June - July PHASE TWO: REOPENING Building confidence Giving people the confidence to return to the city centre will be key to its successful reopening. To do this, with others, we are jointly funding a marketing campaign to support the economic recovery by promoting the safety of both the area and its businesses. Details of the campaign will follow in the coming weeks. Supporting The BID are working to ensure that the views of businesses are always considered as the council puts in place responses to this crisis. We are currently supporting a phased pedestrianisation plan of the Old City and separately, King Street, to enable businesses to work more effectively whilst accommodating social distancing requirements. We are also backing a number of nationwide campaigns to support businesses including #RaiseTheBar. Responding swiftly Bristol City Centre BID continues to work with others to resolve problems such as waste, lighting and graffiti. Our key partners in this are Bristol City Council and Bristol Waste, with whom we meet each week to discuss and resolve issues in the centre, and Veolia, who provide our cost effective waste contract for levy paying businesses. Making it safer Our Streetwise Officer, Natalie Hendy, is out everyday tackling drug use, begging and other forms of anti-social behaviour. On 16th June, a dedicated Police Officer, Gareth Ayers, starts work with us to reduce the crimes affecting our levy payers. We are also introducing a cost-effective new radio system with reporting software that links us with businesses, the police and the council. Cleansing & safeguarding Our cleansing and safeguarding activity continues as it is essential that everyone feels confident, safe and welcome as they return. We will continue maintaining a high-level of cleanliness throughout the city centre. Bristol City Centre BID Recovery Plan Page 4
