Mercury Bay Flyer Notices from committee +Hangarage is the main topic these days, where is it and when will it be erected? Well, happy to report that the signs are now up as construction begins after the COVID19 shutdown allows work to recommence. Supply chain problems will be slowing the erection of the building frames. Watch this space! Canada Geese MBAC are stepping up geese eradication with shootings taking place per CAA advice. We would therefore prefer people to keep away from walking on or near the runways until further notice, as it causes the geese to move away from favourable shooting positions. The shooting will take place, initially over the next two weeks, towards the adjacent farmer’s paddocks, with his permission, where most of the geese are residing at present, and he has moved his cattle accordingly. They still remain a threat to aircraft however as they vacate the paddocks after feeding, flying in V formation of 50-60 at a time right across the main runway at about 50 ft heading to Waterways where they get moved on after causing a huge mess. In addition, repairs to runway 04/22 areas outside of the repair area have been over-sowed and rolled and with the break in the drought occurring there will be a much greener runway in due course.
