O’Neill Secretary: Jennifer Neiland & Deirdre Mulligan Caretaker: Richie Kehoe House Keeping: Pauline Power Classes • Our School is sub-divided into 3 sections – Junior, Middle & Senior. • Students are usually moved from one class to the next on the basis of age. e.g. If a vacancy in Middle 1 arises, then the eldest student in Junior 4 shall move up to Middle 1 at the discretion of the Princi- pal. • In some cases a student may ‘skip’ a class, again usually depending on age. • As a rule most changes take place in September, but occasionally a change may occur at other times. • Since we do not have a yearly intake of young children in the 5 – 8 year category, children in the Junior school do not automatically transfer class each year. School Day Class begins at 9.20 a.m. and finishes at 2.40 p.m. Transport • Transport to and from school is a free service provided for students living a distance from the school. • It is operated by Bus Eireann and all enquiries regarding this ser- vice should be directed to Bus Eireann or the Dept. of Education and Skills • Neither the Board of Management nor the Principal have any function in the provision of this Transport Service, other than re- questing the service for students, on first entry into the school • Queries relating to School Transport should be referred to School Transport, Bus Eireann, Waterford. Tel: 051 73401. Code of Discipline PLEASE READ ADDEnDUM TO CODE OF DISCIPLINE This is a summary of the basic rules of the school. It does not include the specific rules a teacher may lay down in his or her own class for the smooth and safe running of that class. Our primary concern is to make the school a safe and happy environ- ment in which teachers and students can work together in peace. Behaviour 1. Each student shall at all times respect, obey and co-operate with the class teacher or other persons in charge in all school activities so that he/she will in no way hinder the progress of others. 2. Bullying in any form is considered a serious offence and will not be tolerated. 3. Inappropriate contact is strictly forbidden. Health and Safety 1. It is forbidden by law to smoke in the school premises or grounds. Students may not bring cigarettes, lighters, matches etc., into school. 2. The use / possession of alcohol and/or illegal substances is forbidden. 3. Students must be conscious of the safety of other students at all times (e.g. no pushing, hitting, rough behaviour etc.,) 4. Please follow social distancing, hand hygiene, cough etiquette guide- lines for Covid-19. Phones, Music equipment etc 1. Students are not permitted to bring Mobile Phones into School. Should the occasion arise where one is brought in it must be handed over for the whole day to the class teacher. Phones found on students will be confiscated overnight. In the event of emergencies students will have access to the school phone. 2. Any personal steroes, C.D. players, I pods etc. are brought in at par- ents’ discretion, may only be used outside of class time and are the re- sponsibility of the owner. Personal and School Property 1. Due to Covid-19 no school bags are required. 2. Students are responsible for their own property and belongings and bring them to school at their own risk. 3. Anything brought to school must be in a scrupulously clean bag. 4. Students shall show respect for property whether it belongs to school, adults, teachers, or other students. 5. Cars parked in the school grounds cannot be interfered with in any way. Observe the following as routine 1. Students should arrive clean and neatly dressed in uniform for school. Parents of students incorrectly dressed or shod will be informed at once and given an option to rectify the situation or collect their son/ daughter should this continue. 2. Students, by law have to bring a note of explanation following absences. This can be done through Aladdin Connect or class plat forms. 3. This is our school and general tidiness makes it easier to work and study here. Students must keep the school and school grounds tidy and litter free. 4. Students are expected to take care of books and have a pencil, pen, rubber, ruler etc., 5. Students are expected to walk quietly on the left hand side of corridors around the school building. Sanctions • The Sanctions are on display in all classrooms and in the hall. • All parents sign up to the Code of Discipline upon enrolment of their son/daughter. Suspension • A student may be suspended up to 3 days for serious misbehav- iour. Expulsion Where a student is guilty of serious misbehaviour and/or has been sus- pended 3 times, expulsion may result! School Uniform Our uniform is compulsory. Pale blue polo shirt, Navy jumper with logo, Navy trousers/& blue checked skirt/Navy Skirt. Black shoes or black runners. Page 6 Our Lady of Fatima School
Child Safeguarding Our Lady of Fatima School seeks to provide a happy and secure learning environment for all our students where they can be confident that if they have concerns they will be listened to with understanding and respect and they will be acted on. The full Child Safeguarding Statement is available on request from the of- fice. Visitors Due to Covid-19 visitors to school are discouraged. No one may enter without first reporting to Reception. Parents/Guardians are asked not to turn up unexpected to school, but to phone ahead and give warning eg if a student is to be collected early. Teachers or the Principal may only be seen by prearranged appointment. It is preferred that where possible any contact is by phone. All visitors are requested to sign in and out in the provided book. Hygiene & Personal Care • We have a strict policy regarding Hygiene and Personal Care in our School. All parents are given a copy at enrolment. • It is in the interest of all that acceptable hygiene practices are in place in the School. We ask for the co-operation of all parents in helping us to make our school, a clean, safe and happy environment for all. Our Lady of Fatima School Page 7
Periodically there will be problems necessitating action in dealing with head lice, or personal hygiene. Our Child Care Staff are on hand to help in these areas. Reports • A written report is posted to every home in June. • Parents are invited to respond to these reports. Absences • Due to Covid-19 restrictions no student should be sent to school unwell. Please refer to website for updated isolation guidelines. • By law all absences must be explained. ( Using Aladdin Connect, telephone or note form). • NEWB must be informed when a student has missed a total of 20 days. Page 8 Our Lady of Fatima School
Illnesses/Accidents • In the event of a student becoming ill at school or suffering a fall or injury, parents/guardians will be contacted by phone. • It is essential that the school has a contact number for someone who will be available to collect your son/daughter. • Parents/Guardians must make the school aware of any medical con- ditions suffered by students. • Please inform the school immediately of any changes to details. SCHOOL ACTIVIES HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY CURTAILED BY THE COVID-19 SITUATION Art • All students from Junior 2 to Senior 1 attend classes with Ms. Gal- lagher weekly. Subject to change due to Covid-19 restrictions. • Generally all materials are provided by the school, but students will be asked to purchase an Art Pack every 2nd year. • Senior 1 Junior Cert Exam class are required to buy the following: Watercolour Pencils, 2B & 4B pencils, rubber & topper. Home Economics Due to Covid-19 regulations Home Economics classes are limited to stu- dents in Middle 4 & Senior 1 (subject to change) Cookery expenses are as follows: M4 €4 weekly S1 €5 weekly • Money should be paid promptly to the teacher. Healthy Eating • Breakfast cereal is provided each morning for any student who wishes to partake, free of charge. • All students are also provided with a light snack at break time – milk, bread roll and spreads. There is no charge. • Lunch is provided for your son/daughter free of charge. Lunches are ordered online and can be changed by a Thursday for the following week. Please make sure your child likes what you have ordered. All queries to 053 9235994 • Since the health of our students is one of our primary concerns, stu- dents are encouraged to have healthy lunches. • Chewing gum, crisps, fizzy drinks and sweets are not allowed in school. School Books/Supplies • Our Lady of Fatima School does not ask parents to provide all their son’s/daughter’s books. We try to cover most of the cost ourselves. • We do ask that some contribution is given. • The cost this year is as follows: One student €40 per year. Two students from one family €35 each. Three or more students from the same family €30 each. The Health & Safety of all students needs to be safe guarded in and out of school. School Insurance is a necessity and only €5 for the whole year. Students who have not paid may not take part in any activities outside of school. We would prefer all monies would reach us as soon as possible but certainly by Halloween at the latest. • Our Lady of Fatima School Page 11
Our Lady of Fatima School Holidays 2021/2022 Halloween Closed Mon 25th Oct—Fri 29th Oct inclusive. Christmas School closes Wednesday 22nd December @ 12 noon to Wednesday 5th January 2021 inclusive. Spring Mid Term Closed Mon 21st—Fri 25th Feb inclusive. St. Patrick’s Day Thursday 17th March Easter Closed Mon 11th April to Fri 22nd April inclusive. May Bank Holiday Closed Monday 2nd May June Bank Holiday Closed Wednesday 1st June to Monday 6th June inclusive. Summer Holidays School closes on Thursday 30th June @ 12 noon.
