PUBLIC COMPLAINTS Complaints, grievances, requests, or suggestions involving personnel, programs, or operations of the district should be discussed first in informal meetings among the interested parties. If these meetings fail to resolve the differences, the problems shall then be forwarded to the Superintendent who will advise and initiate formal proce- dures. EPA COMPLIANCE In compliance with Federal Law, (AHERA) Pl99-5-9 and the Environmental Protec- tion Agency guidelines which require notification that asbestos has been identified in our buildings, the Board of Education has followed all requirements in regarding in- spection and reporting. A copy of the district management plan is available in the Board Offices. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY NOTICE The Lisbon Exempted Village School District is committed to equal opportunities for all applicants, participants, students, and employees in all facets of its operation. Likewise, academic courses and extra-curricular activities are made available to all students. All decisions are made without regard to sex, race, religion, color, national origin or handicapping conditions. It is the policy of the Board of Education to take affirmative action to insure the above. Keith H. Edenfield, High School Principal, has been designated as contact person for any complaints dealing with alleged violations of Title IX, or Section 504 of the Reha- bilitation Act of 1973. CLOSING OF SCHOOLS When it is necessary to close schools due to inclement weather, the Superintendent will make the final decision. Parents will receive a call from the Lisbon Schools PreK- 12 Notification System if the correct phone number is on file. If a call is not received, parents are asked not to call the schools or radio stations, but rather to listen to the following radio stations: 570 WKBN Youngstown, 104.3 WELA-FM East Liverpool, 600 WSOM-AM, 105.1 WQXK-FM, or 101.1 WHOT Youngstown.

SEARCH FOR HANDICAPPED STUDENTS Ohio school districts continue to attempt to identify and locate handicapped children from birth through age 21. “Handicapped” in this case, means possessing either a physical, emotional, or mental impairment that may require a need for special education. Public schools, under federal and state mandates, provide a free and appropriate public education regardless of the child’s handicap. Many of these children are not visible because they do not function in the community’s mainstream, and many unidentified handicapped children are preschoolers. Parents may not realize that programs and services are available. If you know of a handicapped child who is not being served, please contact the school. FEDERAL FUNDS PROVIDE SPECIAL SERVICES Lisbon EVSD receives funding each year from the following state and federal programs. Strict guidelines accompany these funds to insure correct and consistent use among school districts. Funding from the government is used to support reading and math programs, hire staff to reduce class size, provide professional development, and for special education. Title I School Wide Title I-A School Improvement Title II-A Improving Teacher Quality Title VI B Rural and Low Income Special Education Part B IDEA NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND—Notification of Qualifications of the Professional Staff The new federal law, No Child Left Behind, requires that any local school district receiving federal Title I dollars, must notify parents of each student attending any school receiving Title I, that they may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student's classroom teacher. This notifies you of your right to inquire about the qualifications of your child’s teachers. If you would like this information, please contact the central office. LISBON SCHOOLS ON THE WEB The Lisbon Schools Website is loaded with information about the school system and includes videos, teacher pages, alumni information, etc. There is a calendar on the site for updates on school activities.
