SCHOOL ROAD, LOWER MOUTERE www.lowermoutere.school.nz ~ office@lowermoutere.school.nz ph.526 7775 Absentee txt 027 3398801 13 December 2019 Dear parents and whanau of Lower Moutere School – Well, we have reached the end of the school year– nearly!! The school is buzzing with the excitement of preparations for the end of year concert. With ‘The Arts’ being the focus, we are seeing loads of dancing, and creative costumes along with the students making the numerous props that are required for the evening to be a real hit! Farewell to our Year 8 students! Last night we had the privilege of saying farewell to our Year 8 students, celebrating their time at our school and thanking them for their contribution to Lower Moutere School. Ending primary school days and stepping out to secondary education is one of those ‘life milestones’ that we all go through. How we prepare for and respond to these transitions, models for our children, resilience, dealing with change and strategies for events later in life. The more encouraging and supportive that we can be, the better equipped our children will be. To be the best that we can be is very alive in our school, and we feel very confident in, and proud of our students who are heading away to the various secondary schools in 2020. We wish this fine group of people well! Classes - 2020 Next week, the 2020 class placements will be announced, with students coming together as their new classes. These class placements are made by teachers for a variety of reasons including but not limited to social, academic and family reasons. We have also taken into account family requests that were asked for, earlier in the term. Considerable thought is given to class placements. Please respect this when considering the placement. Thanks for your understanding. The end of year concert is on WEDNESDAY 18 DECEMBER , starting at 6.30pm. If the weather is fine, the concert will be held in the school grounds. There will be a sectioned off area of the field for parking. Parents are welcome to bring a picnic blanket, low chairs and snacks. Should we have rain, the venue will be the Lower Moutere Hall. Parking will be in the bottom paddock. We know that this will result in a tight squeeze! If you have pre-schoolers, please place them on your knee to make as much room as possible. We look forward to sharing our talents with you, next Wednesday evening!! Lower Moutere School To be the best that we can be!
To Paul King and Talleys for donating small tubs of ice-cream to the school for next week’s concert! We have one for every student at school! Thanks for your generosity! To all the parents who have helped with transport, coaching /managing teams, so that our sports teams do well. To the people who give us their time to help in classrooms – awesome! To the parents and grandparents who support fundraising efforts in the school! To our families who support our staff, their children and value the education that our school gives – we appreciate it! Thanks! Reporting to Parents Staff have been incredibly busy over the past 5 weeks writing and updating school reports. Again, the reports are of a very high standard and I admire the teaching staff who have dedicated large amounts of their time to ensure that you have a report that is personal to your child. These will be handed out at the conclusion of the concert, on Wednesday. If for some reason, you do not receive your report, they will be either posted out or can be picked up on Thursday. Nearly!!...Thursday will be the last FULL day of school. Buses will run as per usual. Thursday will also be a mufti day. Students can bring wheels to school for a wheels day … bikes, scooters etc, along with the appropriate safety gear. Friday is a half day, concluding at 12 noon. There will be NO BUS SERVICES on Friday. Attendance is optional on Friday. STAFFING – 2020! We welcome the new staff to our school, for the 2020 school year. We thank them all for their generous time and energy given to our school and students, and wish them well in their new jobs! NEWS from our Board of Trustees! The Board of Trustees met for the final time this year, last week. Here is a brief breakdown of our meeting… Student achievement for the year was presented. Reading – 87% of our students are reading at the curriculum level or better Writing – 85% of our students are producing written work that is at the curriculum level or better Maths – 81% of our students are working at the curriculum level or better. The Board of Trustees extends their thanks to the school staff for their hard work and commitment towards the education of our students. Zoning – the Ministry of Education has asked that Lower Moutere School establish a school zone. So what does this mean for our school? All students enrolled in the school are deemed as ‘in-zone’. There are no changes there at all. For the future, the school needs to establish how many spaces that we have in the school, at all levels. We then advertise this. From there, families approach the school about enrolling – just as we currently do. Being a zoned school simply means that we are able to monitor more closely how big the school gets, and close the roll should we have no further room to place students. Should you have any questions about the establishment of a school zone, please ask the school. Every school that has a zone has varying circumstances around the zone – so no two schools are ever alike. We are aiming to have the zone in place for term 2, 2020. The design stages are in place for the redesigning of Room 4, re-roofing of the Admin block and our junior school. We hope to see this start early term 1.
The school has been given a further $142000 for property works. We are exploring the option of using this to extend the multi-purpose space (school hall). This term our school is reviewing its procedures on Education Outside the Classroom and Sun Protection. These are important procedures to consider as we head into summer.
