CMTC, TORONTO QUARTERLY BULLETIN APRIL -JUNE 2021 MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR Dearly Beloved in Christ, I am happy to address you all once again through our quarterly news bulletin. We entered this year with great expectation and enthusiasm hoping for relaxation of the lockdown and for a control of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the situation is still prevailing along with new variants and stricter rules, keeping us in bondage. One of my friends, recently send a message which reads like this; 2020 was a year of virus and 2021 will be a year of Virus, Variants and Vaccines. Earlier this disease was categorized as a pandemic and now it is being labelled as endemic because we are not sure when this will be controlled, or whether the vaccines can really give us immunity to resist this life- threatening virus. The conspiracy theory of the origin of this disease is still in the limelight. Who is responsible for this disease? Whom do we blame for this great pandemic? Can the vaccines, control this disease? When this will be under control? There are numerous questions like this, which have not yet been answered completely or even partially. It has been one year of church closure without a full attendance of in-person worship. It has been Incredible and good that we could open the church for few people. Let us kneel before God for a better future in worship and for all our social gatherings. The ongoing virtual worship, online classes and work from home may affect our relationships seriously. I request all of you to please make a conscious and serious effort to maintain our social relationships. We were able to convene our annual general body on March 21st to approve the annual report, Accounts for the year 2020 and Budget for the year 2021. I express our thanks to the outgoing office bearers for handling the day-to-day affairs of the parish beautifully despite the pandemic. A special word of appreciation to Mr. George Mathai, the trustee finance, Mr. Lijo Mathai, the secretary, and Mr. Mathews Pothen the lay ministrant Malayalam. A special word of appreciation to Mr. Bilu Omman the internal auditor and Alphonsus and associates the external auditor. May our gracious God shower His abundant blessings upon all the office bearers who have taken charge of the office of various positions. I am extending a warm welcome to Dr. Usha George, the vice God is our refuge and strenght,a very present help in trouble Ps 46:1 P a g e 3 | 28
CMTC, TORONTO QUARTERLY BULLETIN APRIL -JUNE 2021 president, Mr. Alexander V. John, trustee finance, Mr. Manoj Kompithra trustee accounts, Mr. Robin Thomas, the secretary, Mr. Johnson Jacob, lay ministrant Malayalam and Mr. Hagin George lay ministrant English. I am happy to congratulate the new team of executive committee and all the office bearers of the sub organizations. I request the new team to work for the common interest of the parish and especially for the kingdom of God. We all are saddened due to the unexpected demise of our beloved S. Philip uncle on February 24th, 2021. Uncle was always a quieter person, but he was a loyal member of the Canadian Mar Thoma Church. He was sincere and one of the pioneer members of our Parish in Toronto. He was the Vice president, Trustee and Sunday School teacher of our parish for several times. Our heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families and friends. As we all know Rev. Roji Mathew Abraham is appointed as our new Vicar from May 1st, 2021. Achen is blessed with rich talents and is efficient enough to lead our church in this virtual era. I wish and pray for all His blessings which our God Almighty may shower upon him to lead our church effectively according to the values of the kingdom of God. I request each and every one to extend your maximum support and prayers to achen to do a wonderful and blessed ministry among us. Me and my family are always thankful to the Canadian Mar Thoma Church for all your support and prayers especially during this difficult time. -Once again, we are celebrating Easter with the hope of resurrection for all and to everyone who face challenges in their life. The paschal mystery of Jesus, marks humanity’s passage from death to life. Good Friday is not the culmination of holy week, but it is just a prelude of the joy of Easter. After the joyous occasion of Easter, our daily life would go on. We will, still suffer, still work, still worry, and we may even sin again, returning to our old routines and prejudices. But Jesus, will not give up, on us. He will live with us, and will make His life, death, and resurrection, ever present with, and for us as long as He lives. Wishing each one a blessed Easter. With prayers and regards, Sunil Achen God is our refuge and strenght,a very present help in trouble Ps 46:1 P a g e 4 | 28

CMTC, TORONTO QUARTERLY BULLETIN APRIL -JUNE 2021 Message from the Secretary Desk Greetings to all in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The world is still going through the hardships caused by Covid. The development of several vaccines and the vaccination drives raises our expectation of controlling the spread of this pandemic. I am also relieved to see the gradual easing of restrictions across the province and hope more members can attend the church services and activities in person in the upcoming months. We are in the Passion Week and remembering the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ is a great hope for all of us that these difficult times too shall pass and we all will have a brighter tomorrow. CMTC families were in deep grief following the sad demise of our beloved S.Philip uncle on February 24th , 2021.Uncle was one of the founding members of our church and generously contributed his time and wealth for the growth of our church. He also served the church in various executive positions and we are grateful for the leadership uncle provided to our church all these years. I thank God for his blessed life and express our heartfelt condolences to the family members. On a personal note, I am humbled to take up the position as the new Secretary of The Canadian Mar Thoma Church. I praise and thank God for this blessing and express my sincere gratitude to all of you for considering me for this position. I request your continuous prayers, support and guidance in carrying out my new responsibilities. I thank our outgoing Secretary Lijo Mathai and the executive committee for organizing various programs during these unprecedented times and implementing online alternatives to ensure the smooth conduct of Sunday school classes, weekly prayers and worship services of the church. Our Vicar Sunil Achen’s sterling leadership and his Christ centered life principles and vision helped our church to grow abundantly in faith and God’s grace. Achen always took special care to reach out and provide needed care and fellowship to the sick and to those who were undergoing stress and loneliness especially during these pandemic times. We are all disheartened to hear by this time that starting May 1 st, Achen is moving from our church to Thalavady Padinjarekkara MarThoma Church in Kerala. We will miss Achen’s Holy God is our refuge and strenght,a very present help in trouble Ps 46:1 P a g e 25 | 28
