P rovincetown Community Resource Guide: summer 2021 edition! Created by the Provincetown Health Department's "Meeting Needs" coalition that includes town departments, non-profits, healthcare providers, and the faith-based community, the Provincetown Community Resource Guide was made for our community, by our community. Updated from the March COVID-19 edition, it includes contact info for many organizations offering assistance to those needing extra support during challenging times: anyone facing food insecurity or housing instability, needing financial support or unemployment assistance, or seeking access to mental health services. You can view or download an interactive pdf from the Town’s website: https://bit.ly/3ywiFbp. CLICK ON THE GUIDE TO ACCESS It's OK to ask for help Click for Community Resource Guide We send our best wishes to the Popko Family for a speedy and healthy recovery! We also send our thanks to the Popko Family for the many years you have created and provided this lovely gift to visitors and residents alike. It is a holiday treasure and we appreciate all of the time and work spent creating it IMPORTANT LOBSTER POT TREE POSTPONED! A MESSAGE FROM THE POPKO FAMILY
The Popko Family unfortunately had to postpone installation on Thanksgiving weekend of the fabulous Lobster Pot Tree in Lopes Square. Due to covid-19 breakthrough cases for two lead family members/organizers/Tree builders they were not able to build the tree. We planned to omit the LIVE lighting event for 2021 to avoid this exact risk! We didn’t think WE would be the EXAMPLE! Once everyone’s health is cleared, we can build the tree with all its shining lights! We deeply apologize for all inconveniences regarding your visit to see the tree. We know many have traveled for the lights. Until then, the car is loaded & bows are ready, the topper sits on the trailer waiting to ride to Lopes Square. Please enjoy your visit to Provincetown- there are many wonderful happenings. We wish you and your loved ones a very healthy winter. Thank you for your understanding and support. --From the Popko Family

Currently, a fourth survey is open for responses. This iteration of the survey will evaluate the extended effects of the pandemic, including impacts to the 2021 summer season, and results will reveal more about changes to operations, effects on revenue, impacts to the workforce, and both financial and non-financial needs. Survey data collected can be leveraged by businesses, towns, and other organizations in grant applications and reports, as the results document the initial and ongoing impacts of the pandemic on our local businesses and non-profits. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey below. Take the Survey > Dissolution of the Mid-Cape J-1 Housing Program The ongoing pandemic has placed many new responsibilities on our senior pastor, Matt, and myself concerning the church. It is difficult for me to juggle the housing program and the responsibilities of the church. So, with a heavy heart, I am dissolving the Mid-Cape J-1 Housing Program. I have emailed hosts and landlords with a list of employers that hire J-1 students, so they may contact employers directly concerning housing availability. Matt and I will still be involved with the road safety program (backpacks, bike lights, etc.). We will also continue to help provide J-1 events with Hello Summer J-1. It has been an amazing and crazy 8 years. Thank-you for helping our J-1 participants to have a safe and great summer! Blessings, Rev. If so, let us know by signing up below and be a part of our Second Annual Light Up Provincetown Event
Provincetown Event In light of the ongoing pandemic, we will create a map/display guide (Light Up Provincetown Guide) for members of Provincetown and neighboring communities, showing them where they can drive by to see beautiful holiday displays throughout town from the safety and comfort of their own vehicles. Places like the Lobster Pot Tree, Provincetown Monument and the Town Hall can all be a part of the guide. Last year we had over 1700 people view the map and we want to expand it! We ask that all participants have their homes lit up at night when/if possible through January 3rd. Please note that your name and phone number will not be disclosed at all during the duration of this event. Property owners will remain anonymous to the public. C ape Cod National Seashore Frost will soon be on the pumpkin, salt marsh grasses are turning russet, and hardwood trees are showing off a kaleidoscope of colors, signifying the transition to late fall and the scaling back of some seashore operations. The Province Lands Visitor Center operation in Provincetown has closed for the season. Over the next few months, rehabilitation work will be occurring at the center, including a new roof, exterior and interior repairs, and installation of new carpeting. During construction, outdoor observation decks may be closed for public safety. Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham continues its daily operation, with staff and volunteers assisting visitors with maps, brochures, and orientation information at the building entrance between 9 am and 4:30 pm. The America’s National Parks store at Salt Pond is open Tuesdays through Sundays but will close for a short time in December. Restrooms are available through the winter at Province Lands and Salt Pond visitor centers, and vault toilets are available at Hemenway Landing in Eastham, Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro, and Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown. Leashed pets are welcome on seashore beaches and on the Nauset, Head of the Meadow, and Province Lands bike trails during the winter months. Pets are not permitted on seashore walking trails, except for a short segment at the beginning of the Great Island Trail in Wellfleet. Bikes are not allowed on walking trails or on beaches. Several construction projects are underway this fall.
Work Areas: The Nauset Bicycle Trail is being rehabilitated to repair safety issues on the section between Salt Pond Visitor Center and Doane Picnic Area. This segment of the trail is closed. The trail between Doane and Coast Guard Beach is open. Work should conclude in late November. Root-impacted sidewalks at Salt Pond Visitor Center are being repaired under the same contract. Construction work on the new bathhouse at Nauset Light Beach has resumed, and parking remains limited. The major rehabilitation of Highland Lighthouse is headed toward completion this winter. Other construction projects getting underway over the next several months include new roofs, chimney repairs, installation of new septic systems, rehabilitation of the Atwood-Higgins House, and interior repairs and conservation treatment at the Captain Penniman House. Seashore partners are carrying out significant historic preservation work, including painting and repairs to Nauset Light by the Nauset Light Preservation Society, and completion of the major rehabilitation of the Highland House Museum by the Truro Historical Society. For more information about Cape Cod National Seashore visit www.nps.gov/caco Warning: Keep Wildlife Wild - This includes coyote and fox There have been serious incidents in the past few years involving bites to people and pets. Keep your distance and do not feed wildlife. Rangers have been responding to incidents of coyotes acting assertively toward people in attempts to obtain food. This behavior starts with people feeding the coyotes intentionally by leaving food out, or inadvertently by not removing food scraps and packaging from the beach. This leads to the animals becoming habituated and bold in attempts to obtain food. When wild animals lose their fear of people, they behave unpredictably and aggressively, resulting in injuries to people and a sad ending for the habituated animal. Keep wildlife wild. Protect your safety and the safety of others. Do not feed or attract wildlife! Report assertive coyote sightings to rangers or the dispatch center at 617-242-5659.

The task is to build awareness in a competitive environment where there are many competing messages. The challenge is to find a way to connect with buyers who have a need, want or desire that you can fulfill. The process of brand building is taking buyers through the buying continuum from unawareness to purchase and repurchase. Be data focused. What are your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats? Know these elements of your business intimately so you know how to approach your customers and prospects. Know your competition. What is working for them? What are they offering and how are they reaching their buyers? How is your value proposition being received? How can you deliver your message in a more efficient and effective way to reduce your sales and marketing investments? How can you position yourself so that you are perceived as having no suitable substitute, e.g., gain competitive advantage? Put a human face on your brand. Brands are perceptions. Perceptions become facts. Brand management is all about story telling. When buyers see your brand, they see the soft side of the business equation. Does it displays the human side of your business? Does it tell a story allowing connection with potential customers and reinforcing current ones? Does it make the connection to allow you to generate greater share of customer purchases? Integrate your marketing. Effective brand building is part of an integrated marketing initiative that connects you with buyers at a variety of levels. The challenge is to determine what channels your target customers tune into. And, how will you tell it? The task is (1) to get their attention, (2) capture their interest, and (3) convert them. Making a positive connection with your brand message that demonstrates the values it represents is the foundation of building a positive brand that drives sales. Contributed by Marc L. Click here for The Commons Happenings This fall, Provincetown Commons’ board member, Pete Hocking, is undertaking a fundraiser to support our artist studios, co-working facility, meeting spaces and exhibition gallery. The project is called Field Guide: Walking & Painting on Cape Cod. Over the next six months, Pete will document his explorations of the landscape, culture, and natural history of Cape Cod, while also writing about his work as a landscape painter. Less about telling you where to go, the project will suggest how to go. Through this project, he wants to share his philosophy of being an explorer of worlds. Pete believes that even if we inhabit the same place, it’s less interesting to follow his footsteps as it is to encounter this place on your terms! For people who are able to make a donation to Provincetown Commons, Pete will share his explorations in a number of ways. Anyone who donates at any level will be invited to follow his weekly online journal. For anyone who can donate at $200 or above, he’ll also send you a physical version of his ‘zine field guide in spring 2022. For

Intersection Intersection is an apt name for the first exhibition in the new Hudson D. Walker Gallery. The show features the work of eight past Fellows, all selected by guest curators from the Work Center community. Together, we celebrate the ritual of welcoming new Fellows to a place and community that has nurtured artists and writers for decades. Intersection is on view from October 29 through December 5. How does poetry equip us to talk to and about grief? Poet Allison Joseph joins the 24PearlStreet faculty this December for a “Live via Zoom” workshop focused on reading and writing elegies. The workshop entitled Elegy as Healing Art: The Role of Elegy in Healing our Wounds will explore how the grieving process itself resembles the process of writing a poem. Visit our website #MaskUp We ask all participants to #MaskUp when visiting the Work Center. We also kindly request proof of vaccination for entry to indoor events.
