PREP 2021 TRANSITION
Our Purpose
Is to empower all students to excel through a
culture of high expectations, purposeful
relationships, challenge and support.
Prep 2021 Transition ... Documentation • Ensure contact/employment details are accurate at all times • Birth certificates/immunisation certificates mandatory • Information about parent contributions/book packs will be distributed in term 4 • Asthma management & allergy plans - signed by a doctor

Prep 2021 Transition ... Getting Ready ... ● Preparing your child for the start of Primary School will help them feel more confident about the big changes that are about to happen and what to expect at their new school. ● In preparation for this important chapter, you can help your child to develop a love for learning so the move is a happy and positive one. ● Encouraging your child to do things on their own: - Going to the toilet - Washing their hands - Dressing (shoe laces) - Unwrapping their food - Carrying their own school bag - Opening their drink bottle – WATER ONLY!
Prep 2021 Transition ... Preparing for School ... - Prep Pack 2021 - Alphabet chart - Oral language, oral language, oral language! - Fine motor, fine motor, fine motor! - Wednesdays (testing days)
Prep 2021 Transition ... School Uniform ... - The wearing of school uniform is compulsory! - You can buy uniforms from PSW in Sunbury (near Aldi) - The uniform policy prohibits extreme hair styles and colours - Students may also wear shorts or track suit pants purchased from other retail outlets, as long as they are the right style and colour (navy blue) - Reversible Hats … house colours

Expectations for Day 1 ...
● First Day of Prep ... Friday 29th January, 2021 (TBC)
● 8.50 am ... Drop students off at classroom and let
them unpack their bag
● 9 am … Class starts promptly
● 3.15 pm ... Finishing time
Prep students do not attend school on Wednesdays during February
Prep 2021 Transition ... Developing Resilience ... Research shows that children are more likely to develop resilience if they: • trust that the world is safe and caring people will help them; • believe in their ability to do things for themselves; • feel valued for who they are; • feel optimistic; • and can manage their feelings, thoughts and behaviours.
Prep 2021 Transition ... So ... • Speak favourably about school and show children that we will help them if needed. • Encourage children to carry their own bags and put their own belongings away. • Encourage children to get themselves ready in the morning. • Discuss learning strengths and areas for improvement with a growth mindset. • Differentiate between big and small problems using a catastrophe scale.
Prep 2021 Transition ... So ... • At the end of the day talk to your child about what happened at school – use a structured protocol (3 good things) to encourage conversation.
