MEET YOUR TUTOR Transition 2020 Year 7 Tutor Groups Below are the Year 7 tutors starting in September. Tutors look after the wellbeing of our pupils, track their academic progress, attendance, behaviour and personal development. Their goal is to ensure that every child fulfils their potential and feels valued as a member of our school community. On Monday we will be sending parent emails detailing who their child’s tutor will be. Miss Phillips Miss Peacock 7.1 7.2 Mr Vincent Mr Locker 7.3 7.4 Mr Gasson Miss Diwell 7.5 7.6
Parent Q&A Video Sessions Transition 2020 We will be running four Google Meet Q&A video sessions for parents/carers on Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th July. During this time parents/carers will be able to ask general questions to Mrs Patchai (Year 7 Raising Standards Lead) and Mrs Houston (Head of Year 7) regarding Folkestone Academy and the Transition process. If you have a specific question regarding your child please email the Year 7 team: FAYear7@turnerschools.com. To book a place during one of our video meetings please complete the form via our Transition website. Before doing so please take a moment to read our Frequently Asked Questions sheet: https://sites.google.com/view/fa-transition2020/head/virtual-qa-session ATTENDANCE At Folkestone Academy, we have the highest aspirations for your child: we know that that every lesson counts towards your child’s achievement and those who attend school regularly make the best progress in their learning. We also know that you, as your child’s parent/carer, want your child to get on well in life. Children only get one chance at school, and your child’s chances of a successful future may be affected by not attending school every day on time. The following charts set out what we consider to be good attendance and also highlight the number of school days lost when children do not attend at the expected level.
LIBRARY & READING LIST Transition 2020 Hello, my name is Mrs Melia and I am the librarian at Folkestone Academy. I’m really looking forward to meeting our new Year 7’s. The Academy library can be found on the first floor and has over 10,000 books. In the fiction section the books are on the shelves in alphabetical order using the author’s surname. The non-fiction books are catalogued using the Dewey system. There are also computers which you can use for your schoolwork during break and lunch times. Books can be borrowed from the library. All we ask is that you look after them and always remember to return them. If you are not sure which book to read or just need some inspiration for the next one you choose you can of course always ask me when you are in school. I have also created a Year 7 reading list for pupils to read through the summer holidays - this is on the Transition website: https://sites.google.com/view/fa-transition2020/essential-information/library-and-reading-list See you all soon and stay safe and well.
