Reception Remote Learning Booklet Spring 1/D 2021 Dear Parents/Carers, We have put together this pack to support you with helping your child to learn during this closure period. Our topic this term is Winter and this week we will be looking at winter wildlife and the story of ‘The Mitten’ by Jan Brett. We have read the story and we have added the video link onto Evidence Me. We would like our children to complete the writing frame; ‘My mitten is big enough to fit a…’ this is on Teams in assignments and on Evidence me. We have also put into the pack a simple comprehension and sequencing activity relating to the story. We will also be joining in this week with the BBC Big School’s Birdwatch https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and- learning/for-teachers/schools-birdwatch/ We are still focussing on name writing, handwriting and cutting skills and some activities can be found at the end of this pack The following is a link to a letter formation interactive resource https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/literacy/letterformation/ Writing Do’s and Don’ts DO! Use a pencil Begin at the correct starting point Keep your pencil on and retrace the letter where applicable DONT Use a pen (this does not require enough pressure for correct letter formation) Allow your child to form letters incorrectly as bad habits at this age are difficult to correct Criticise, praise and support will ensure your child becomes a fluent writer Phonics We will be using Read Write Inc. phonics programme to teach phonics. All children will receive their individual link to the sound that they are learning each day. Please note; the classes are grouped therefore the links will be individual to your child! We will send the link to each speed sound lesson via Evidence me parent app, please note this link is only active for the 5-7 days
We have added a link to the Oxford Owl website for you to see how we teach it and how the sounds are pronounced. You can create a login free of charge. This website also has a number of downloadable letter formation sheets linked to the sound your child is learning. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ Maths We use the White Rose Maths Scheme in school, we have added the link for parents to follow what we are doing in school. Please note if your child finishes the work set, you are able to access further programmes of study on this website. In addition, each child has a log in for Numbots, which is part of the TTRock Stars family. We have previously sent a link to your child’s log in via Evidence Me App. We will also have a ‘Number of the day’ activity available on the Evidence Me App. This will help your child to consolidate their understanding of numbers to 10 and introduce the numbers from 11-20. Additionally we will add a link each day to a relevant maths lesson from the Oak National Academy https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-key-stage/early-years-foundation- stage/subjects/maths Science This week we will be looking at nature and focusing on the birds that we see in our gardens, as part of the BBC Bird watch. We have attached a link to the website and have also attached a spotters sheet so that your child can record what they see. Please use the Evidence Me app to share all the lovely work and activities that you do at home. There is also a Reception email for you to contact the team should you need anything else. croftoninfreception@watertonacademytrust.org We appreciate your continued support at this difficult time.
