Learning and Teaching Strategies

                             9
Collaboration of ELE & AE Teachers
Teachers of the two KLAs could:
• select a few poems that are appropriate to students’ interests and
levels for discussion in class and encourage them to read more on
their own to promote self-directed learning

• integrate the selected poems into their respective curricula and
provide opportunities for analysing, appreciating and re-presenting
the poems in a creative way

• select and submit outstanding student works as entries for the
  competition

                                                                       10
Learning and Teaching Strategies for English Language
and Literature in English Teachers

  Teachers could
 • discuss with students the themes of the chosen poems and how the
use of language and literary devices (e.g. metaphors, imagery)
facilitates thematic conveyance with the support of the web
    resources suggested on Slide 13
 • help students connect the poems to their experiences and daily life
to develop personal and creative responses
 • guide students to see the connection between words, images and
music with the use of the ETV programme “Between the Lines –
Hong Kong Poetry in English” on Slide 14 (particularly 4:50-6:20)
 • guide students to generate and express ideas, as well as edit the
   Artist Statement

                                                                       11
Learning and Teaching Strategies for AE Teachers
Visual Arts teachers could help students:

• use appropriate visual language of the selected 2D
artwork form (e.g. drawing, painting, printmaking,
  photography, computer graphics)
• develop ideas and images for expressing the selected
poem such as through appreciating relevant artwork
• apply relevant skills and techniques for creating artwork

                                                              12
