Peak District 5 days, Monday to Friday The Location The Peak District National Park in central England is well known for its stunning landscapes. The Northern ‘Dark Peak’ area with its gritstone ridges, large open moorland and the highest point in the area being Kinder Scout contrasts with the southern ‘White Peak’ area of limestone valleys and the famous Dovedale stepping stones. Add to this beauty the caverns, rivers and pretty villages The Peak District is a perfect holiday destination. Your Accommodation For this holiday we have chosen a large property with plenty of space inside and out. All bedrooms are ensuite and the communal areas large and airy. Outside there is a large lawned garden and access down to the river at the bottom of the garden- a lovely spot for a pre- dinner drink. Mobility Requirements Please note that in this property the bedrooms Photo by Darren Shilson are largely upstairs so an ability to manage stairs is needed. The itinerary includes a visit where an ability to manage a long flight of shallow steps is needed. Disclaimer note: Although we do our best to ensure that everything runs smoothly, we are at the mercy of the weather. As such this itinerary may be altered slightly during the trip due to this or the abilities of the group on the day. We also aim to allow time for both carers and people living with dementia to relax and enjoy time both together and apart. Your Itinerary Day 1: Today we arrive at our accommodation. We can arrange to meet you at Grindleford Station which is 15mins outside Sheffield, you can drive yourselves or we may be able to arrange to pick you up from home for an extra charge. After meeting our fellow holiday makers and getting acquainted with our surroundings we will sit down to a home cooked meal together. Day 2: Today we will head out to Crich Tramway Village where we will be transported back in time riding on vintage trams, visiting the recreated period street where many of the buildings have been rescued from towns and cities across the UK and reconstructed brick by brick. We will have a picnic and then head on over to Dovedale where we will take a short walk along the river to the famous stepping stones. After an ice cream we will head back to the accommodation and have a rest before a walk into the village and a visit to the pub for dinner. Day 3: This morning we head to the Speedwell mines. Here we will be taken on a guided tour in a boat through the mine. PLEASE NOTE: there are 106 steps to reach the boat (we will of course assist people and there is no rush but please be aware of mobility requirements needed for this trip). We will glide silently through the 200 year old lead mine before it opens out into a cathedral-like cavern and the ‘Bottomless Pit’ a huge subterranean lake. After the boat trip we will have a look at the shop selling gifts made from the famous Blue John stone. Later we will make the short drive to Bakewell which would not be complete without a trip to a cafe for Bakewell tart and a cup of tea. After a rest and an early dinner we will make the very short journey to Hassop station where we will have an opportunity to sit in the evening sun with a drink and maybe even be taken on a ride on a Tri-shaw along the disused railway track. Day 4: Today we will spend the day at Chatsworth the home of The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It has been passed down through 16 generations of the same family. We will have a look in the house and then spend some time exploring and having a picnic in the 105 acres of gardens including a maze, fountains and a farmyard. Tonight we will have a final evening meal back at the accommodation and raise a toast to new friends and a week of fun. Day 5: This morning after breakfast we bid a fond farewell to our new found friends and head for home.
