Oakfield CE Primary PE & SPORTS PREMIUM PROPOSED PLAN 2020 / 2021 What is the Primary PE and Sports Premium? 1. The Primary PE & Sport Premium is funded jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and is additional funding allocated to all schools. The funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in school. We receive the money as 2 separate payments totalling £18,610. Purpose of funding: 2. Schools must spend this additional funding on improving their provision of PE and Sport. The four objectives of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding are: a. To improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional learning in PE for generalists, so that all primary pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and have broader exposure to a range of sports. b. To increase participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity of pupils, and maintain these into adolescence. c. To increase the quality of initial teacher training in PE and sport, and to promote PE specialisation in primary level workforce. d. Schools understand and value the benefits of high quality PE and sport, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement. 3. Possible uses for the funding might include: a. Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE. b. Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional (Change4Life) clubs. c. Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport. d. Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport. e. Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games. f. Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport. g. Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs. h. Maintaining and purchasing equipment and resources.
4. Sports Participation. The Federation champions quality PE. In recent years, participation at festivals and competitions has steadily increased. This has necessitated allocating part of the budget to transport costs. Sports after school clubs were also limited. We now coordinate a wider range of activities including athletics, tree climbing and archery. In 18/19 we undertook a sailing initiative championed by Sir Ben Ainslie and this will continue with KS2 pupils. There is an emphasis on physical activity in the after school clubs providing a range of skill/games sets, in addition to a range of other clubs including gardening and forest schools. Additional coaches have also been employed for some sports activities including tree climbing. Our emphasis on physical activity and wide participation is improving sporting outcomes until school closure in March 2020. In 18/19 we have had a range of outdoor climbing frames and exercise equipment installed (with lead funding from the Diocese). In 19/20 we significantly improved lesson resource provision including introduction of the Cambridgeshire PE Scheme of Work and a wide range of PE sports equipment. In 20/21 we aim to re-introduce pupils to quality PE, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle. This includes provision of a healthy breakfast to all pupils (via the Magic Breakfast initiative). a. Participation of pupils at competitions has increased from approximately 40 pupils annually (2013) to over 100 representations now (from approximately 60 different children). The challenge in 20/21 will be reintroducing intra/inter competitions and active participation by the school. b. After school club participation is approximately 70-80 pupils per week when previously it was 10-20 (1 or 2 clubs per week). We will reintroduce clubs in 20/21 following school closure and ensure activities undertaken are covid-19 safe. c. Y6 swimming, 39% of pupils achieved 25M swim and associated swimming skills in 18/19. We anticipated a much improved outcome in 19/20 before school closure curtailed swimming activities. We aim to reintroduce swimming at the earliest opportunity for lower KS2. 5. Budget allocation. Funding for 19/20 was broadly allocated as follows but not all was spent due to school closure from Mar 20 (an increased amount was spent on PE equipment): Equipment £5K Membership fees £0.5K Clubs £1.5K CPD/Coaching £7K Events/festivals £2K
