S T. M a r k ’ s C E P r i m a r y School Autumn 7 Newsletter Dear Parents/Carers It’s hard to believe that we are nearly half way through this half term and we have only spent a few weeks in our new building. This wonderful photo of the school was taken by one of our parents when dropping off her child for breakfast club. Thank you to Racheal Hopkins for capturing such a wonderful picture! Our old building is now in the process of being fully cleared and you might have noticed the old Year R building has now completely disappeared! All week as part of our PSHE curriculum the children have been learning about celebrating difference and appreciating that every- one is different but that everyone is equal. Today to mark the im- portance of this and for anti—bullying week the children have come in to school wearing odd socks. It has been refreshing to hear how well the children have learnt from this topic and have related our core Christian Values of Love, Inclusion, Equality and Respect to this. Well done everyone. On Wednesday 16th December the children will be having their Christmas dinner. These dinners have to be pre-ordered so if you haven’t already ordered your child’s dinner please remember the deadline is today at 3 p.m. Unfortunately we are unable to take any orders after this time and it will be necessary for you to send your child in to school with a packed lunch on this day in- stead. Due to COVID we will not be asking for donations of Christmas crackers this year howev- er Morgan and Sindall, the building contractors, have very kindly offered to donate each child a Christmas cracker to have with their dinner! Thank you to Morgan & Sindall. As previously mentioned we will be unable to hold our traditional Christmas Church Service but instead a celebration will take place virtually whilst remaining in our class bubbles. Please don’t forget if you have any other ideas about Christmas celebrations to please do email us at in- fo@st-marks-southampton.org.uk. As always thank you for your continued support. Mrs Stephanie Bryant—Headteacher
S T. M a r k ’ s C E P r i m a r y School Autumn 7 Newsletter Sporting News It seems like a long time since we have been able to share news from the PE department. Like all areas of grassroots sports, we have seen a great deal of change within PE and school sport, most noticeably in the loss of opportunity to experience competition against other schools, and indeed against other bubbles. This of course does not mean exciting things are not happening!! Cricket Initiative We are currently working with Hampshire County Cricket Club and Chance to Shine to offer high quality coaching in the school to all children in year 1-4. It has been a huge success, with our two coaches proving to be a real hit with the children. The sessions will continue until Christmas. Af- ter Christmas, we hope to offer cricket opportunities to 5 and 6 as part of our extra-curricular offer if government guidelines permit. Innovation Curriculum This term we have been delivering an exciting and innovative curriculum designed to focus on per- sonal challenge and personal fitness. With national and local fitness levels suffering during the recent lockdown periods, we have been able to focus our teaching and see a definite and clear rise in the fitness in the majority of our children post lockdown! A real success!! Active Playtimes The children have been experiencing staff led active playtimes with equipment available for break and lunchtime for each bubble to use in either a structured or an exploratory way. It is fantastic to see how active and fully engaged the children are at these times. Astro Turf The children are now starting to use the astro turf, especially if the field is too wet. It’s a won- derful facility and gives us a huge amount of flexibility within our curriculum and extracurricular programme. Children must have appropriate trainers (no studs or astro boots, no school shoes) for this sand based surface. Unfortunately children may have to do PE alongside the astro if footwear is unsafe for wither them or could cause damage to the surface. Uniform, Outdoor PE, Safety and Warmth! Thank you to all the parents who are sending their children to school fully ready for PE on the appropriate days! As the days start to get colder we encourage the children to wear layers. A vest, under layer or skins should be worn under the white t-shirt and a tracksuit top or hoody on top. Children can also wear a sports jacket on top of this – but it must be a different jacket to the one worn to school. We also encourage a second pair of trainers/socks to be brought in case the children get wet feet Please do not forget to send children with tape to cover earrings – only studs allowed in school please. All jewellery must be removed, children should be able to do this themselves. Mr Munnings Head of Physical Education
