*** PBA Weekly Bulletin *** Week commencing Monday 21st June (Timetable: Week 2) Message from Mr Adams Well we started the week in a heat wave and have finished in a monsoon! All part of the great British weather. The big news for this week really hangs around the announcement by the Prime Minster on Monday that COVID guidelines are to remain in place until mid-July. This has obviously had a major impact on the planned events for pupils in school. It is hugely disappointing that even after an entire school year we are still operating under quite restrictive guidelines, although with increasing rates of infection, I suppose this should not have been unexpected. We had planned for this contingency and will now adjust our plans accordingly. Step-Up Day for new pupils will not happen as planned and we have agreed a model with the lower schools and Etonbury Academy to replace this. Details to follow on Monday. For our internal Step-Up Day, this will continue with pupils meeting their new teachers adhering to the current COVID guidelines. Our planned face-to-face Parent Consultation Evening and Information Evenings will be replaced with virtual meetings. I am aware that these are not ideal but it is not possible to have the number of parents in school that a normal parents evening requires. I am also very aware that parents have not have a chance to visit the school and while we had plans to facilitate this, these will require adjustment. Currently I believe it will be possible to invite parents in, staggered across a week, in Year group bubbles to look around the school and see the facilities. I will share information once we have received confirmation that this is feasible. Once again, we finish a week with some uncertainty and the need to undertake rapid re-planning. This has been the story of this year, luckily, we are educating a resilient and flexible body of young people who continue to respond superbly and take everything in their stride. *********************************** This Week’s Information (All Years)… COVID-19 PLEASE NOTIFY THE SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY VIA EMAIL pixbrook@bestacademies.org.uk IF YOUR CHILD TESTS POSITIVE LATERAL FLOW HOME TESTING KITS Although children of primary school age (and below) without symptoms are not being asked to take a test, PBA has been provided with a large amount of COVID-19 lateral flow home testing kits. SPORTS AFTERNOON (THURSDAY 15th JULY) Following the recent announcement from the Government regarding the delay to Step 4, it is regret that we will not be inviting parents/carers to this year’s Sports Afternoon. We look forward to inviting you next year instead. WOW DAY (FRIDAY 16TH JULY) As we are heading to the end of the school year we have some will WOW days that will add enrichment opportunities for the children. On Friday 16th of July we will be running a day of Harry Potter themed lessons. They all have links to the National Curriculum but have been designed with a fun twist. On this day we would like the children to either come in fancy dress or wearing the Harry Potter house colours. This is optional, but if your child would like they can come to school dressed as a student from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We look forward to seeing your magical costumes.
