Black & Green Official Balga SC Match Day Program STATE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO Saturday 26th September, 2020 BALGA SC vs Kingsley Westside
Black & Green Official Balga SC Match Day Program FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome back to Princess Road for our penultimate game of 2020. This week we say hello to our friends from Kingsley Westside who are enjoying their first year in State League football. We have been so lucky to be able to play football at all this year and whilst the intensity has not always been evident, it is great to be able to play and watch others play each week. Our results have been disappointing from a first team standing but Danny Cain should be congratulated in his first season as senior coach as it is obvious the team spirit has been great all year and the boys have tried to play good football each week. Richy has also done a great job with the reserves side and we thank them both for their efforts this season and start looking forward to better days next year. This year has been difficult for the club financially because of the three months income we lost when things were shut down from March. Despite that, the club is growing stronger every day with our juniors equipped with so much new gear for training. Next target is to have new goals for next season for the Mini Roos teams. Many thanks to Ron and Liz for their tireless work and assistance in obtaining this new gear, great to put in our new storeroom. A new source of income for the club has just arrived with the introduction of “Containers for Change” by the State Government. You will notice a large recycle bin for all your cans and bottles. Should you wish to donate your items to Balga’s Fee Free Football program it will help us continue our work with the kids of the area. It is also possible to take your cans and bottles direct, from Octaber 1st, to the City of Stirling collection point at 257 Balcatta Road, Balcatta and quote Balga soccer Club ID number C10276065 and we will receive the payments direct. Next week we are also at home to finish off the season. We invite all past members and players to come down and celebrate another good year for the club. Also in attendance will be many of our sponsors whom without we could not exist. Trust you can all say hello and thank you to them all. Enjoy your afternoon in Balga, Go the Black & Greens! Black & Green Official Balga SC Match Day Program LAST WEEK'S GAME Canning City vs Balga Canning City are hot on their heels after a 5-2 win against Balga at Burrendah Reserve. It was a perfect start for Canning, and their coach Chris Finlayson, who was on the sidelines after a back operation, with Josh Wallhead curling home a corner on six minutes. But Balga levelled sixty seconds later, Kristian Despotovski on target. But the home side regained the lead on 36 minutes, with Ryan Moran curling home a set-piece. Further goals after the break from Moran, Jack Murray and Emmanuel Langoya gave the hosts a well-deserved win, while Despotovski second a second for Balga late. “We changed our style of play to give us a more attacking structure which worked well in midweek, but really gave us the edge to beat Balga for the first time in 39 years,” City assistant coach David Scragg said. “But more importantly it sets us up for the final two games of the second phase. We have a full squad to pick from next week, positions are up for grabs as all the lads want to be part of the push for finals football.” ________________________________________________________________ ____________________ Aussie Pooch Mobile Dog Wash and Grooming come to your house and will pamper your pooch by giving them a warm hydro-bath, ear and eye clean, nail trim and a blow dry. Black & Green Official Balga SC Match Day Program RESERVES REPORT First of all, a massive thank you to Mark Higgins for stepping up yet again to take the team and assist. It is nice to bounce off a like-minded football soul. We won three on the bounce two weeks ago against Kelmscott doing the double over them - they weren’t easy to break down but once we were in front we took control of the game winning 3-1 with goals from Brandon Del Fabbro, Anthony Ruhumuriza and Michael Maiolo with our third. Midweek against Curtin was an exiting encounter for the neutral, drawing 3-3. A mention of Dom Manno who scored a hat-trick - his first was a ‘rocket-shot’ and his third was a cracking touch to score which levelled the game. Both teams had chances to win but on a reflection, a draw was probably a fair result. At the weekend we drew 0-0 with Canning. We were not at our best in the first half, the strong rain and wind making it incredibly difficult to play the way we wanted to - and Canning capitalised on this. We played better in the second half. Three points would have been nice and would have put us in a strong position for a top-4 finish. But we can take a lot from the fact that we are unbeaten in five games. Today will be a difficult game against a strong Kingsley side who have only lost one game all season. We will have to be at our best to get a good result. Good luck to the first team and U18’s. May the game be played in the right spirit- enjoy the afternoon - see you in the club-house after the game. Rich Bryant Balga Reserves Coach THIS WEEKEND'S FIXTURES .
Black & Green Official Balga SC Match Day Program DIVISION TWO – PHASE TWO, ROUND FOUR PREVIEW In the State League Division Two top six we have four teams still in the mix for the title, but Carramar Shamrock Rovers are in the best position, sitting three points ahead of Wanneroo City, while Dianella White Eagles and Joondalup City are still in contention, so like the other two leagues, Saturday is going to be massive. Our ‘Match of the Round’ takes us to Grandis Park, where third placed Dianella White Eagles take on leaders Carramar Shamrock Rovers. The Eagles lost ground on the top two after back-to-back 0-0 draw’s against MUM and Joondalup City last week, but Miki Vujacic said both were fair results. “Yes, it was a disappointing draw last week, and on Tuesday against Murdoch, but in all fairness the draw was the right result,” he explained. “Both teams had some clear-cut chances, and the conditions were horrendous for football, so if either team lost, they would have felt hard done by. Unfortunately for us, we really needed the three points to stay in touch but it wasn't to be.” Vujacic said the trip to Rovers is another challenge, but a win will send the title race to the final round. “Grandis Park is a tough place to go, and Carramar Shamrock are a tough team to play, so the odds are stacked in their favour,” he said. “They've been consistent for most of the season, so we'll be going there hoping to disrupt their rhythm a bit. For us we need the win (and other results to go our way) to have any chance of finishing top, so we'll be ready to have a good crack at them.” In other top six games second placed Wanneroo City make the trip to Walter Padbury Reserve to take on Gosnells. If Jess Bridgeman’s side don’t get all three points it could hand the title to Rovers, but they are in good form after a big 7-2 win against MUM in midweek. Gosnells are still looking for their first point in the series, but a win in this one will keep their top four hopes alive. In the final game Murdoch University Melville entertain Joondalup City at Murdoch University Arena. A top four spot is still achievable for both sides so this one will be another tight encounter. In the bottom six, Morley-Windmills must get points to stay in the running for a finals place when they meet Kelmscott Roos. Canning City are at home to Curtin University, while Balga meet Kingsley Westside. www.footballwa.net
