Friday 18th March 2022 (Week 7, Term 1) It is great being back! It is also great seeing so many more children returning from isolation and sickness. We still have about 30 children away and I hope that we all continue to keep this virus at bay, or if it does affect your family, that you don't get too sick. Again, your support in keeping your sick children at home has been one of the most important pieces of our Covid response. Please continue to contact the school if anyone in your family contracts the virus or if a Carol-Lynn Hill child needs to isolate. For me, I can't wait for the time where we can welcome parents back on site. Tumuaki/Principal Relationships are a huge part of my role as Principal, and while I am slowly beginning to meet a few parents as they come to the office, I'd love to meet more of you. I want to publicly acknowledge the staff who have stepped up while our amazing Dana Macdonald has been in isolation and later getting Covid herself. Dana will hopefully return to school on Monday. I have a huge appreciation to what the office role involves now. I have always said that School Office Managers are the REAL boss of the school...lol! I have accidentally cut people off when answering phone calls and often I am unable to answer the simplest of queries - Dana is a LEGEND! Thanks Beks for covering and doing both jobs and thanks to the staff for understanding that Beks has been so busy and stretched between two jobs. We are a great TEAM! On Monday/Tuesday 11th/12th April we have our parent/teacher interviews. These are a wonderful opportunity to talk about your child's needs and develop some goals. I would expect that all parents make a time to see your child's teacher. I have asked teachers to follow up with any parents who do not book a time. Click here to book a time: BOOK A TIME The board of trustees are looking to the future and keen to ensure we consider succession planning. The board would welcome anyone who might be interesting in joining the board. Board elections are later in the year in September. Contact myself or Sarah Burns (chairbot@paterangi.school.nz). Our next meeting is Tuesday 22nd March at 6.30pm at the school. I'd like to support the PTA's efforts to generate interest and ticket sales for a HUGE Easter Raffle. Can we please ask that each family donate a small Easter "goodie" (or large if you wanted). The PTA will collate the donations into several large hampers that we will raffle off. Donations can be bought into the office foyer where there will be a large box for collection. Thank you in advance on behalf of the PTA. I would like parents to be aware that there could possibly be some disruption to learning should a teacher need to stay home and isolate due to sickness or a family member. If this happens we might have to close a class and switch to Home Distance Learning (if the teacher is just a close contact and not sick). We will, of course, do our best to accomodate those children who have to attend due to parents needing to work. We have been incredibly lucky that so far our teachers have not had to isolate as we simply cannot get relievers. Stay well, stay awesome and stay positive. Times are tough out there and I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend with your families.
