Volume Issue Our Family News From Our Chaplain . . . PRAYER OF HOLY ROSARY Mary cooperated so much in the plan of God of saving the world. She accepted the role of the mother of the savior and took care of him until his crucifixion when he died to save the world (John, 19: 25-27). Hence she is so much blessed by God, beyond all the Angels and Saints, and her prayer before God is so powerful. One of the popular prayers to Mary is the Holy Rosary. In the wake of Vatican II, Pope Paul VI encouraged the faithful to pray the Rosary to our Mother Mary. The Pope said Rosary is Christocentric in nature; it is beautiful, calms the mind, helps the faithful to be attentive to the Holy Spirit and brings about family integra- tion. Archbishop Fulton Sheen says, “The power of the Rosary is beyond description.” The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary, therefore let us in this month and in fact, every day of every month, pray the Rosary to our Mother Mary and ask her to inter- cede for us to God for all our needs, the needs of the Church and the whole world. 1
Life Enrichment As the cooler weather sets in, we are busy with many fall activities. We are harvesting the last of the vegetables from our garden, enjoying some scenic fall trips and creating some beautiful fall art projects! Our travel club visited the Czeck Republic/Slovakia last month. We landed in Prague and visited Karlstein and Konopiste Castles. We then traveled north to the Skaly or Prachov Rocks which make up a fairy tale “rock town.” Our travelers sampled some delicious nut roll and kiffle treats. Our Special Birthday Celebration is a fancy lunch- eon for residents whose birthdays fall during that month. In September, residents enjoyed a deli- cious individual meal consisting of lobster tail, rice pilaf and roasted vegetables. The meal comes com- plete with cake, decorations and party hats! All floor created and enjoyed creating “dirt” des- serts which features crushed oreos and chocolate pudding. It is made to look like dirt complete with gummy worms! It was delicious! 2
Life Enrichment Continued We had lots of fun at our September Chinese “Themed Meal.” The food, complete with chop- sticks was delicious! This month, we’re looking forward to a variety of Halloween activities, events and treats! Spotlight on Religious Services We are very blessed at Holy Family Senior Living to have a full com- plement of faith filled, dedicated and caring Religious staff. With affection and reverence they are known as our “God Squad. “ This wonderful team of staff and volunteers cares for our residents daily in so many ways with compassion and humility. They bring faith and joy to our days, support us during difficult times and com- fort us in sorrow. They bless our building inside and out, regardless of the weather. Our Chaplain is Father Simon Kimaryo. Each day, he conducts daily mass, and visits our sick, lonely and hospice residents. He teaches us through bible study about God’s love and our faith. Father Tony, our retired Chaplain helps out part time at our recep- tion desk and capably fills in for Father Simon when needed. Sister Lilia works on the activity floors daily, cheerfully conducting a wide range of activities every day. Sister Lucy volunteers at HFSL five days a week. She also helps with activities. She serves on our dementia unit bringing a world of com- passion and patience with her each day. We are very thankful and blessed to have every one of them! Father Simon leads our Bible Study Group. Sister Lucy and Father Simon Blessing our building. Sister Lilia joins residents on a bus trip. 3
