Come, follow me … and bring hope to the world.
Commitment Weekend: February 6 – 7
I invite you to spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal materials you
should have received in your bulletin or in the mail. The Annual Catholic Appeal is much
different than a one-time special collection: It is a pledged commitment to make a gift over time.
Your pledge can be made payable in installments.
Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts
of many enable our archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services to answer the call of
Jesus to “Come, follow me … and bring hope to the world.”
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back. This year, we

Weekend Zobowiązań: 6 i 7 lutego
Proszę Was o znalezienie czasu w tym tygodniu na refleksję nad materiałami Dorocznej Kwesty
Katolickiej, które powinniście otrzymać pocztą lub znajdują się w biuletynie. Prosimy, abyście
pamiętali, że Doroczna Kwesta Katolicka jest czymś zupełnie innym niż jednorazową specjalną
kolektą. Jest to kampania, podczas której składane są zobowiązania finansowe, które mogą być
spłacane w ratach.
Każde zobowiązanie ma znaczenie! Wszystkie parafie archidiecezji uczestniczą w kampanii i to
dzięki darom złożonym przez wiele osób parafie, szkoły i wiele duszpasterstw może zapewniać
wiernym potrzebne posługi i dzieła duszpasterskie i odpowiedzieć na wezwanie Jezusa: „Pójdź
za mną…i nieś światu nadzieję”.

GUIDELINES FOR ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17
• All liturgical celebrations must follow established protocols, e.g., capacity for which the
parish is certified, registrations, masks, etc.
• Distribution of ashes is to be done in the following way: ͂
- After blessing the ashes and sprinkling them with holy water in silence, the priest addresses
those present, reciting once the formula found in the Roman Missal: “Repent, and believe in
the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." The priest then
puts on a face mask and a shield, sanitizes his hands and distributes ashes to those who come
to him or, if appropriate, he goes to those who are standing in their places.
- He then sprinkles the ashes on each person’s head without saying anything.

Abortion Survivors
Child psychiatrist Philip Ney relates, "A woman reported telling her nine year old son about her
abortion, which had taken place years before he was born. He said, 'I knew, Mom, that there was
something wrong. I always have nightmares about knives and my mother killing me. I have an imaginary
brother who wants to kill me. If you had not aborted the other, would you have aborted me?'" (Abortion
Survivors, p.36).
This is a story repeated more times than most people realize, and representing a societal and
pastoral problem whose proportions are greater today than at any previous time in history: the
phenomenon of tens of millions of abortion survivors.
It is clear that abortion's primary victim is the child who is killed. It has also become increasingly
clear that to kill the child is to harm the mother and father as well. What is not always so well known,
however, is that abortion makes its impact felt on those who have had a sibling aborted, and that this
impact is felt in surprising and astonishing ways, which also have wider implications for the whole of
society.
