OPAS 2021 Competition hosted by Columbus College of Art & Design Competition area: Franklin County and Surrounding Metro Parks Parking is free for the duration of the competition in the two lots outlined in the map below. The tent for campus check- in and canvas stamping will be located in front of the Loann Crane center 112 Cleveland Avenue (2 on the map) on the CCAD quad. This will also be the location for the events on Sunday. Restrooms are located inside the Crane center.
There are so many great places to paint in Franklin County- from urban to rural, modern to historic. Here are a few suggestions Central Downtown Columbus— 1. Ohio Statehouse and grounds 1 Capitol Square 43215- there is a parking garage under the building 2. Scioto Mile Riverfront – great views of downtown- day or night- lots of metered on-street parking in the area
3. Bicentennial Park/ Cultural Arts Center 139 W Main St 43215 4. Short North- High St just north of downtown Columbus/ Goodale Park-- Art galleries, bars and restaurants – vibrant nightlife- good area for nocturnes 5. The North Market food hall and public market, est. 1876, is located at 59 Spruce St 6. Arena District- Nationwide Arena 200 W Nationwide Blvd / McFerson Commons- Home of the Columbus Blue Jackets
7. Victorian Village- Neil Ave between Goodale St and 5th Ave 8. Just east of downtown- Franklin Park Conservatory 1777 E Broad St. Parking and access to most of the grounds are free. There is a fee to enter the conservatory 9. Just South of downtown- German Village/ Schiller Park 1069 Jaeger St 43206 10. Scioto Audubon Metro Park 400 W Wittier St- great views of downtown Columbus with a nature preserve in the foreground
11. CCAD campus- including Columbus Museum of Art 12. Topiary Park 480 E Town St- a recreation of Seurat’s ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ in topiary form! Also many great old homes along Town St. 13. Franklinton Arts District – area around 400 W Rich St 43215 – up and coming urban neighborhood- art studios and hipster bars and restaurants
Northeast 14. Uptown Westerville- Corner of N State St and Main St, established 1848 / Otterbein College Campus 15. Inniswood Metro Gardens 940 S Hempstead Rd 43081 123 acres of manicured gardens and woodland walking trails 16. Everal Barn and Homestead 60 N Cleveland Ave.- restored Farmhouse, barn, and outbuildings in park setting 17. Hoover Reservoir 7701 Sunbury Road 43081 18. Downtown Gahanna/ Creekside 123 Mill St 43230
Southeast 19. Slate Run Metro Park and Living Historical Farm 1375 OH-674 43110 – The farm is within the Metro Park- once you enter the park, follow signs for Living Historical Farm. The farm is open 9am-5pm 20. Canal Winchester Historical Society 10 W Oak St 43110- restored building including train depot. The downtown has some quaint old buildings as well. 21. Three Creeks Metro Park 3860 Bixby Road- 1,100 acre park with ponds and walking paths
Southwest 22. Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park 1775 Darby Creek Dr 43119- Bison Herd 23. Greenlawn Cemetery 1000 Greenlawn Ave 43223 opened in 1849 24. Gantz Park- 2255 Home Rd 43123 Farmhouse and gardens and creek
Northwest 25. Ohio State University campus/ Oval/ Mirror Lake 181 Oval Dr S 43210 26. Waterman Farm (part of OSU) 2490 Carmack Rd - Barns, livestock, orchards, apiary 27. Downtown Dublin 1 W Bridge St 43017 / Indian Run Falls 700 Shawan Falls Dr 43017 28. Fletcher Coffman Homestead at Coffman Park 5200 Emerald Parkway 43017 29. Downtown Worthington/ Worthington Commons- N High St and OH-161- founded 1803 30. Highbanks Metro Park 9466 Columbus Pike 43035. 1,200 acre park named for 100 foot high shale bluffs overlooking the Olentangy river.
