ICOC Conference Tour 2019
Carpets & Collections of the Alpine Area
September 8–14, 2019
Following the success of the ICOC-Conference-Tour „Vienna-Budapest“ in 2014,
the Austrian Society for Textile Art Research (TKF) is pleased to announce the
forthcoming ICOC-Conference Tour „Carpets and Collections of the Alpine
Area“ to be held in September 2019. This exclusive tour will take participants
to little known museums, monasteries and sumptuous royal palaces in the
mountain regions of Bavaria, Tyrol and Northern Italy.
As a result of the TKF’s longstanding close co-operation with museums, we are
able to include collections of:
Museum Fuenf Kontinente, Munich (Ethnological Museum)
Hofburg (Royal Palace) and the Museum of Tyrolean Heritage, Innsbruck
Museum der Voelker, Schwaz
Hofburg (Royal Palace) Brixen
South Tyrolean Folklore Museum, Bruneck, and the
South Tyrolean Museum of Archaeology, Bozen.
Participants will have the opportunity to examine pre-historic textiles and
Oetzi, the ice-man himself, during a private viewing being organised exclusively
for participants of this tour. In addition, there will be an array of collections of
oriental carpets, Byzantine silks, medieval tapestries and local textile art on
display.
One of the highlights will be the exhibition “Woven and Embroidered Stories-
Textiles from private collections” in Schwaz, focusing on ethnological textiles
from private Austrian collections never seen before on display. Another
exhibition worthy of a visit will be to Traunstein to view “2000 Years of Textile
Art” which will include outstanding antique oriental rugs.
We are particularly pleased to offer our participants privileged access to some
important private collections of carpets and textiles of this Alpine Area.
1Our small and dedicated team is organising a diverse and inspiring tour which
will start in Munich on September 8th, 2019 and will take participants to
Innsbruck, Schwaz, Brixen, Bruneck, Bozen, Traunstein and back to Munich on
September 13th, 2019. Expert lectures will accompany the various exhibitions
and sights.
Participants will be able to learn more about the details of the tour as we plan
to open the booking period from January 2019 until end April 2019.
Talks and guided tours will be held in English.
