Bugbee Bulletin Volume 2020 Issue 13 October 2020 Published monthly by White River Council on Aging 262 N. Main St., White River Jct., VT 05001 802-295-9068 www.bugbeecenter.org COVID-19 UPDATE We are looking forward to seeing people again! Beginning October 2020, the Bugbee Senior Center will be moving into Phase One Reopening based on updated guidance for senior centers from the State of Vermont. Activities and meals will be subject to occupancy caps. Reservations and screening are required. Face masks and social distancing are mandatory. For Congregate and Take-Out orders, call that day between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM 802-295-9068 Directors Corner Hi again everyone! It’s been my first month here, and I am having the time of my life. We’ve got the most incredible staff and volunteers who have been working hard to keep things running despite the difficulties of this pandemic. And I’ve been fortunate to meet at least a few of you over the past few weeks—behind a mask and six feet away! We have some good news! Updated guidance from the health department will allow us to resume some meals and activities. It’s not quite back to normal—for your safety it must be less than 1/3 of what we can usually accommodate. There will be some screening before you can come, and face masks are mandatory, as is social distancing (Lenny left us a spray bottle to make sure you don’t get too close!...). Given the reality of the pandemic many of you still will be unable to join us due to the inherent risk in- volved. So we are going to continue offering take-out meal service. We’re also starting to dip our toes into the world of online, virtual activities to help keep you involved with interesting and fun activities from home. Details on that will be out with next month’s bulletin. Of course, we’ve been doing more than dealing with COVID. I went on a delivery run with Allen, I’m sure some of you know him. We had a great time—well, I did, I don’t know about him! Len continues to show me how to keep this place up and running. I’ve enjoyed every meal put out by our wonderful kitchen staff. And after a month back in the area, I’m reminded why I like this area so much. The Upper Valley is full of some real characters, and despite the challenges we are all facing, I have never laughed harder in my life. Take care, be safe, and keep in touch! Mark Bradley, Executive Director

Now that a few things have started to open we are doing the Pen Pal letters with the 3rd graders at the Ottauquechee School. This was a huge success last year and so I contacted Kathy Bishop, the 3rd grade teacher to see if she/they had interest in resuming this year. Hopefully, by the end of the school year we’ll be able to bring the students in for cookies and milk, as in the past. I’ve contacted all of our seniors from last year and we are currently full. However, if you would like to be put on a waiting list please contact us. Senior Fitness with Liz Hatfield is back as of Thursday, November 5th at 1:30PM. We max out at 10 people. $24 /3 Classes Let’s get back in shape. Sign-up required Are you 70 or Older? We want your opinion about an educational tool for COLONOSCOPY!
