Stuart Bird Head of Creative Learning READY FOR 2020 There are so many exciting things to look forward to in 2020 including the move to our new home at Centrestage Village. Bring in the new year in style with our rip-roaring cabaret; ‘Nashville New Year’ then celebrate Ayrshire’s favourite bard with ‘A Richt Guid Nicht’ inclusive of a three-course meal! Our eagerly anticipated Dance Fringe hits the Centrestage theatre in February with performances from our Mayhem, Bedlam, Jinx, Pandemonium and 25+yrs Adult Dance Theatre companies. Then join our 8-11yrs Musical Theatre companies as they find themselves on an unexpected journey in February’s ‘Madagascar’. In March, all your favourite Dr Seuss characters spring to life onstage as our 12-14yrs Musical Theatre companies present ‘Seussical Jr’! Musical Theatre Musical Theatre is at the heart of everything we do at Centrestage. Including singing, acting and dance, the Musical Theatre programme is available from 4 years and upwards. There are six main streams including our Wee Stars aged 4-7yrs, 8-11yrs Musical Theatre, 12-14yrs Musical Theatre, 15-17yrs Musical Theatre, 18-21yrs Musical Theatre and our flagship adult CS Performers company. Each of the Musical Theatre companies produce two productions a year, a cabaret style showcase… and a fully licensed production! Dance Centrestage has a thriving dance programme, whether it’s our primary classes in the form of Jinx & Bedlam or our various Dance Theatre options that seamlessly blend stories and characters with innovative dance elements...there are options to suit everyone. Acting Acting skills are at the core of both Music and Dance Theatre classes. Our acting classes develop key skills which will enhance self-esteem and performance ability. All of our Acting companies will produce one fully staged production a year as well as take part in a variety of cabaret performances in our What’s On calendar. Vocal From our flagship junior and adult Gospel & Soul choirs, to our Chicks@6 on Friday evenings and our Centrestage Voices on Wednesday afternoons, there’s always a way for you to discover your voice. There’s no audition to join and all you need is to love music! There are plenty of opportunities to take to the stage over the year but no-one needs to perform before they are ready. Just come along and raise your voice! Musical Generations Musical Generations welcomes members of our community, from a wide variety of home and care settings to enjoy an afternoon of music, movement, conversations and refreshments. Memories are revisited through the music and carers and family members are encouraged to come along and be part of the fun! Gie It Laldy This very special session welcomes anyone living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers, to an afternoon built around music, conversation and reminiscence, creating wonderful new memories for everyone coming along. Pre-School Come along and meet Poppy and Leo at Centrestage every Tuesday! Our new Baby & Me class is for babies from birth to 12 months and their grownups! Wriggle & Rhyme is for toddlers up to the age of 2 yrs and these fun-filled sessions include stories, singing, movement, dance and play. Poppy Leo Teeny Talent classes introduce all the elements of musical theatre in preparation for our youngest performers joining our Wee Stars classes from the age of 4 yrs. Parents are encouraged to have some time to themselves. Additional Support Needs Our activities for children and adults with Additional Support Needs are integral to our Creative Learning program, with availability currently as listed within the Centrestage Theatre. Rising Stars and Aspire activities incorporate all elements of performance including song, dance, acting & movement. Previous productions have included Les Misérables, Mamma Mia and the hugely popular Christmas panto. 2020 is sure to be another fantastic year for Aspire. Arts & Crafts (Women’s Group) People of all ages are welcome at this informal class. Come along to learn how to create lovely objects by traditional methods and enjoy a cuppa and conversation. Creative Writing Come along and be supported to explore and develop your own writing style. From sci- fi authors to poets, no experience is required and all are welcome. Fun@One Join us for a fabulous half hour of entertainment in our Centrestage theatre led by performers from across our CS community. Taking place the first Tuesday of every month, Fun@One is followed by Gie it Laldy at 2pm. Why not spend the afternoon with us! Art with Eoghann MacColla Learn and explore art techniques using pastels, oils, paper and paint, led by acclaimed artist Eoghann MacColl. All are welcome and no previous experience is required. Choral Group This daytime choir is aimed at singers of all ages who enjoy formal choral singing, who can read music to at least a basic level and who enjoy a wide repertoire across all eras and genres of music. It is led by Fiona McKenzie and runs on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm-3.30pm. The Unlikely Lads This informal group is open to men of all ages who get together on Thursdays at 11am for a good sing of anything from Johnny Cash and Elvis to Les Mis and Loch Lomond! Community Choir On Thursdays at noon, anyone, regardless of age, background or experience, is more than welcome to join the Centrestage Community Voices. Come along and enjoy a singing session led by Fiona McKenzie of songs chosen by everyone who comes along. So, whether it’s folk, rock or music theatre that you love, there will definitely be something for you. Illustrated Writing Group Whether you are a writer or artist or both, come along and explore new mixed media techniques that will enhance your creative experience. Aspire 2 Cook ASN Come along and be part of our six week cooking course where you’ll train alongside our award winning Chefs who will be sharing hints and tips on how to cook healthy meals on a budget and will Places are limited to six per session therefore, booking is essential Aspire 2 Art ASN Come along and enjoy exploring new art techniques using pastels, oils, paper and paint, led by acclaimed artist Eoghann MacColl. All are welcome! Tea Dance If you like to dance and enjoy good music and good company then look no further. Dance the morning away and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea which includes sandwiches, cakes and nibbles. What a great way to perk up your Friday and socialise with new and old friends.
