GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • 30 Credits • 40 Community Service Hours • Successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in grade 10
COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS • Grade 8 students can start accumulating community service hours as early as July 01, 2021. • Once at Oakridge, students are encouraged to submit community service hours to the guidance secretary upon completion. Do not wait until all 40 hours have been accumulated prior to turning them into the guidance office. • Students are required to keep a copy at home of any community service hours sheet prior to turning them into the guidance office at Oakridge. • Link to the TVDSB volunteer tracking sheet: Completion of Community Involvement Activities

COMPULSORY CREDITS ESL is offered both semesters at Oakridge, therefore students who require more than one ESL course should select two ESL courses in grade 9. Please note, Oakridge only offers ESL C, D, and E Examples: 1. A student starting high school in ESLC should also select ESLD in their grade 9 year. 2. A student starting high school in ESLD should also select ELSE or ENG1P1 or ENG1D1 in their grade 9 year. Talk to your ESL teacher for more information.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PREPARATORY IB STUDENTS In addition to the five compulsory credits listed in the previous slide, you must ensure you have earned compulsory credits in the Arts and Phys. Ed. by the end of your grade 10 year.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO PREPARATORY IB STUDENTS Preparatory IB students interested in taking a summer school course are STRONGLY encouraged to take Grade 10 Civics/Careers (CHV2O5/GLC2O5) and NOT Grade 9 Geography (CGC1D1) because Geography (CGC1D6) is a grade 9 Preperatory IB course and should be taken with the rest of your IB cohort.
ART/MATH BUNDLE OPPORTUNITY • Students who register for the grade 9 Art of Math Bundle will earn their grade 9 compulsory Math credit and their compulsory Arts credit. • Select ARMA1O in my Blueprint (Visual Arts is now 1 of your 2 optional credits). • If you select ARMA1O, you will only need to select 1 more optional course and 2 alternate courses.
OPTIONAL COURSES • Optional Courses: courses selected in addition to your 6 compulsory courses (English, Math, Science, Geography, French, PE) to create a complete timetable (complete timetable = 8 courses). • Note: an “optional course” may count toward a compulsory credit (18 in required in total), or an elective credit (12 in total). • You will need to select 2 optional courses.

OPTIONAL COURSES Repertoire Band/Choir • Grade 9 students can earn an additional 0.5 credit by taking Repertoire Band (AMR2OB) and an additional 0.5 credit by taking Repertoire Choir (AMR2OV). Students may select only Band or only Choir or may choose to select both. • These credits are in addition to the 8 credits that students must take in grade 9 and will be scheduled either before or after school, twice per week, for the entire school year (September to June).
ALTERNATE COURSES • Sometimes a scheduling conflict may occur and a student cannot be scheduled into one or both of their optional course selections. • Alternate Optional Courses: you MUST select 2 additional optional courses in the event that an optional course is cancelled or cannot be scheduled due to a timetabling conflict.

SUMMER SCHOOL AND MYBLUEPRINT • If you plan to take a summer school course, please include that course in your myBlueprint registration, just in case your summer school plans change. • Those students who DO earn a summer school credit, please email your counsellor at the end of August to request the removal of the same registered course at Oakridge. • For information about summer school courses, registration, etc. go to https://www.tvdsb.ca/en/programs/camps-and-summer- programs.aspx in the Spring.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL PARENTS/GUARDIAN All grade 8 students will fall into one of the 5 registration instruction categories (on the next 5 slides) that will determine the specific registration requirements for your student. Unless your student currently attends an Oakridge feeder school (scenario 1), you MUST use the “Find my Local School Tool” (below) to help you determine which registration instruction category (scenarios 2 – 5) applies to your student. REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS BASED ON PRIMARY RESIDENCE AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ATTENDED Scenario 1 - All Students Attending Oakridge Feeder Schools • Clara Brenton, John Dearness, Riverside • Complete your online myBlueprint course registration AND your Student Transfer Form: • Both registration requirements above are to be completed at your elementary school with the assistance of your Elementary Guidance Lead (EGL) teacher.
