Boys’ School Scholarships for Boys Entering Year 7 in 2022 The Saint Kentigern Trust Board offers a number of Scholarships for boys wishing to enter Saint Kentigern Boys’ School at the Year 7 level. The value of the Scholarships is up to 50% of the tuition fee for Years 7 and 8.The tenure of the Scholarship is closely monitored, with a full review at the end of each academic year. Should a boy not be committing himself properly to his studies, the Scholarship could be withdrawn. • Candidates for the following Scholarships must be boys who are currently in Year 6 at a New Zealand School. • On receipt of the application form, the candidate’s present Principal may be asked to provide a confidential report to the Principal of Saint Kentigern Boys’ School. • Scholarship examinations will be written on Thursday 4 March 2021 at Saint Kentigern Boys’ School. The examinations will take a full day. This is the only date examinations can be sat and there will be no exceptions made to this rule. The closing date for applications to be submitted is Monday 22 February 2021. The examination scripts and the marks awarded will be the property of Saint Kentigern Boys’ School. Marks are not forwarded to candidates. Year 7 JC Chalmers Academic Scholarship The primary consideration in making this award will be a student’s performance in the Scholarship examinations scheduled on Thursday 4 March 2021 and after an interview with the Principal of the Boys’ School. Only those candidates who do well in the examinations will be invited to attend the interview. All candidates will be informed of the decision of the Scholarship Committee but actual marks will not be given nor will papers be returned. An announcement could be expected during Term 2. Year 7 Alison All Round Scholarship This is awarded to a boy entering Year 7 who displays all-round excellence in academic, sport and/or cultural fields. Candidates applying for the Alison All Round Scholarship must attend the examinations scheduled on Thursday 4 March 2021. A shortlist of candidates will be selected from results gained in the examinations and from information submitted in the initial application form. These boys will be required to attend an interview with the Principal of the Boys’ School during Term 2. Year 7 Old Collegians’ Jubilee and Old Collegians’ Scholarships Each of these is awarded to a boy entering Year 7 who displays all-round excellence in academic, sport and/or cultural fields and who also must be the child of an Old Collegian or have a family connection to an Old Collegian. Candidates applying for the Old Collegians’ Scholarships must attend the examinations scheduled on Thursday 4 March 2021. A shortlist of candidates will be selected from results gained in the examinations and from information submitted in the initial application form. These boys will be required to attend an interview with the Principal of the Boys’ School along with a representative from the Old Collegians during Term 2. Year 7 Geoff Burgess Music Scholarship This Scholarship is awarded to a boy entering Year 7 after an audition with the Boys’ School Director of Music and an interview with the Principal of the Boys’ School. Candidates applying for a Music Scholarship must attend the examinations scheduled on Thursday 4 March 2021. Candidates will need to show proficiency in one or more instruments. They will also be expected to take an active part in performance music at the Boys’ School. Candidates will need to show proficiency in one or more instruments. Conditions and Regulations of Scholarships 1. The fee for the Scholarship application is $25.00 (GST incl.) per candidate. The fee includes all categories and covers administrative costs. The fee is payable in cash, cheque payable to Saint Kentigern Boys’ School, internet banking to Saint Kentigern account BNZ 02 0108 0501202 00 or direct debit to credit card as per detail shown on the application form. 2. The subjects for academic examinations are English, Mathematics and Reasoning. 3. Scholarships are tenable for two years, provided the Principal is able to give a satisfactory report to the Trust Board at regular intervals of the character, diligence and progress of the scholar. In the case of an unsatisfactory report the Scholarship could be terminated. 4. The Scholarship examinations will be overseen and monitored by the Principal, and the results and his recommendations reported to the Trust Board. In making the awards the Trust Board will, in addition to the results of the examination, have regard to the candidate’s previous school record and his general bearing and attitude to study, games and discipline. The decision of the Principal is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 5. The Trust Board reserves the right not to award any or all of the Scholarships offered if the candidates do not reach the required standard. 6. Successful candidates will be required to conform to the curriculum, expectations and rules of Saint Kentigern Boys’ School. 7. Saint Kentigern Boys’ School is a Presbyterian Church School and a successful candidate is expected to participate fully and willingly in the Christian aspect of its curriculum. The examination scripts and the marks awarded will be the property of Saint Kentigern Boys’ School. Marks are not forwarded to the candidates.
