2015 CALIFORNIA PLANNING FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The California Planning Foundation (CPF) is pleased to announce its 2015 scholarship program for outstanding planning students enrolled at eligible professional planning degree programs in the State of California. Scholarships are awarded to students seeking to enter the planning profession based on an application and selection process by the CPF Board. These scholarships are designed for continuing students entering their final year of an eligible undergraduate or master’s degree program. Criteria for the scholarships include academic performance, financial need, increasing diversity in the planning profession, and a commitment to serve the planning profession in California after graduation. All scholarships include a one-year APA student membership. The following scholarships are available: • First Place, Outstanding Student Scholarship : $5,000, plus APA California conference registration. • Runners-up (3), Outstanding Student Scholarship: $3,000 each, plus APA California conference registration. • Diversity in Planning Scholarship: $3,000, plus APA California conference registration. • California Planning Roundtable Memorial Scholarships (3): $1,000 each. These scholarships are sponsored by the California Planning Roundtable in memory of distinguished planners. • Ken Milam Scholarship: $1,000. This scholarship is sponsored in honor of Ken Milam by the California Association of County Planning Directors for students interested in public planning in California. Only students attending PAB-accredited planning programs are eligible for this scholarship. • Russell Fey Scholarship: $1,000. The Central Section contributes to this award to honor Russell Fey, founding faculty member for the planning program at Fresno State University. The Section encourages consideration of students from the Central Valley for this award. Only students attending PAB-accredited planning programs are eligible for this scholarship. • Paul Wack Sustainability Scholarship: $1,000. This scholarship is sponsored by Paul Wack, a long-time CPF Board Member, for students interested in sustainability planning in California. Only students attending PAB-accredited planning programs are eligible for this scholarship. • David Wilcox Scholarship: $1,000. This scholarship is sponsored in honor of David Wilcox by the Wilcox/Gerhardt families. Only students attending PAB-accredited planning programs are eligible for this scholarship. • Richard H. Weaver Scholarship: $1,000. This scholarship is sponsored by Richard H. Weaver, a well-known California planner and past president of the CPF. • Section Scholarships: $1,000 each. APA California Sections sponsor 17 scholarships for students attending eligible planning programs in their section. o Central Coast (2 scholarships) o Inland Empire (1 scholarship) o Los Angeles (4 scholarships) o Northern (5 scholarships) o Orange (1 scholarship) o Sacramento (2 scholarships) o San Diego (2 scholarships) • Merit Scholarships (3): $3,000 each. Applicants not selected for one of the scholarships noted above may be eligible for an honorable mention award which includes a one-year membership to the American Planning Association. Part D: Personal Statement Please submit a statement of no more than 500 words explaining: (1) why planning is important to you; (2) your potential contribution to the profession of planning in the State of California; and (3) how this scholarship would help you to complete your degree. The statement should describe your near-term and long-term career goals. Part E: Additional Information Please respond to the following three items (no more than 500 words for each response): 1. One must be from a faculty member in your program; the other may be from an academic or professional reference (non-relative) who is familiar with your background, potential as a planner, and/or financial need.
