For those interested in sports, the annual tennis open and swimming carnival are here, so sign up for them during the school holidays! We have a winning photo for our NSRCC Photo Contest which is in the front cover of this issue. We received many entries and this black and white photo was eventually chosen after careful consideration and deliberation. Read on inside on why this unique photograph is given the top notch! You can also see the other entries for comparison. Everybody is a winner because all the photographs are excellent, that is why we have featured the top finalists in the RV for the rest to enjoy. Our Annual Charity Golf is back once again and this time, the beneficiaries are Alzheimer Disease Association, Down Syndrome Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation, SAF Benevolent Fund and Society for the Physically Disabled. If you have not already signed up for it, please do so as soon as possible for a very good cause. We have always been very supportive of the annual golf event and let us continue to strive for better results to do our part and share for the needy and less fortunate members of our society. Do you know that we have a very chic restaurant down at the NSRCC Sea Sports Centre? It is called Chit’s Bar & Restaurant and you should try the food there! I will not reveal the secret but will let you savour the fine dining for yourself! Golfers, you will be pleased to know that we intend to feature some golfing tips on how to play better golf in each issue of the RV for you to learn and improve your strokes. In this issue, we have featured the much dreaded bunker shots which place anxiety in us when we play. No fear, the pro is here! I have tried it and it works! Looks like my handicap index of 14.9 is set to go down soon! We are looking for new volunteers to help out at the various committees. If you are interested to be part of our volunteer team to serve the club and its members, please get in touch with us and we will follow up with you. I must say that it is a very satisfying experience to serve in the Club and it is truly a positive experience as part of our national service contribution. We do not look for rewards but satisfaction that we are part of the success of the club over the years. Come and join us! I am certain that with more than 10,000 members, there must be many of you who are experts in your own fields and can contribute towards the continuing growth of NSRCC. This will be my second last issue of the RV as its Editor. My last issue will be the July/August 2011. There will be a change of Editor after 7 years. Stepping down together with me will be our Captain Andrew Kwa and Seah Chin Aik, the Chairman of the Resort and Facilities Committee. I will introduce you to the new office bearers at the next issue! We would like to wish all of you Happy Vesak Day and of course, happy school holidays! Have fun! See you around in the club! If you see me, please come and say hello and I will still buy you a beer or drink! Cheers! SLTC (NS) Laurence Goh Eng Yau Honorary Editor

NRCC has just celebrated its 17th birthday and it was timely for members to share their joyous moments spent in the club. The first prize goes to Anthony See with his photo titled – “Dusk” which portrays the masculinity that not many would see. live well, eat well Good Debt vs Bad Debt If you read any typical Personal Finance book from a bookstore, one recurrent advice they have is “be debt-free as soon as possible”. According to Dennis Ng, many people quickly pay off all their debts after reading such books including housing loan, which may not be the best decision. Pay Off Bad Debts People forget that there is “good debt” and there is “bad debt”. 2. Paying off a housing loan does not increase your net worth. Bad debt is any debt on consumption.
