As November begins at Day 231, all of our new protocols are beginning to feel routine. Our community continues to fol- low the mask ordinance, practice social distancing, and stay home when sick. Working together, our city has re-opened and our numbers remain low even as the rest of our state and nation begin to rise again. The last weeks of fall sports are coming to an end and we have successfully navigated a full season of youth and adult sports. Children played soccer and baseball while adults played flag football and tennis. Our pools remained open and we are now offering in person classes at community centers. We even celebrated with a contactless fall holiday event, Trick or Treat Boo Thru last week at Hampton Park! Winter sports registration ends in early November and we will move indoors as the days grow shorter and the tempera- tures are colder. Staff is working through processes to separate the 5-8 year olds from the 9-15 year olds and still pro- vide practice and game time in our city gymnasiums for everyone. MLK Pool has re-opened after a year of renovations and St. Julian Devine Community Center will conclude its renovations when the tot lot is installed this month. The new Daniel Island Recreation Center is out of the ground and taking shape as we plan an opening in early 2021. Finally, the Municipal Golf Course is in the final stages of work on the renovations to the 18 hole course which has created new tee boxes and greens and created new pathways to handle drainage and flooding. We thank the community for their continued faith in our ability to offer safe programs and facilities and we encourage everyone to set aside time for recreation that will improve your health and quiet your mind. Happy Thanksgiving! Laurie Yarbrough Our story is still unfolding... Be a part of the story as we celebrate and commemorate Charleston’s 350th anniversary by honoring our unique customs, diverse cultures, and rich heritage through a deep reflection and honest representation of our history.
