The Conference NIOS Conference 10-11 October 2015 The NIOS this year has secured some excellent keynote speakers for its 2015 Conference to be held on Saturday, 10 October and Sunday, 11 October 2015 in the luxurious surroundings of the Galgorm Resort and Spa, Ballymena. Conference presenters will include Prof Ted Garway Heath from Moorfields, Prof Augusto Blanco from RVH, Mr Ed Farrant, an IP Optometrist and Mr Barry Duncan from ABDO, who will be providing both workshops and lectures on a variety of engaging topics. Faith Mills, NIOS President, commented: "Our annual conference always attracts enthusiastic delegates from independent, multiple, locum and hospital settings. We are looking forward to a busy and successful Conference 2015 in the beautiful setting of the Galgorm Resort and Spa. The Venue NIOS Conference 10-11 October 2015 The Venue for this year’s conference is the Galgorm Resort and Spa, Ballymena (www.galgorm.com) which is one of Ireland’s premier 4 star hotel resorts. Situated 30 minutes north of Belfast, there is no better venue to bring you to the heart of Northern Ireland’s breath-taking countryside. The Speakers NIOS Conference 10-11 October 2015 Mr Edward Farrant BSc MCOptom Dip Glauc Dip TP IP Mr Farrant graduated from Cardiff University. He is an IP Optometrist who actively prescribes in independent practice. Edward is a dynamic optometrist with special interest in treating glaucoma and a wide range of eye diseases. He particularly enjoys working with contact lenses, and runs specialist clinics within the practice. He also works in clinics in Bristol Eye Hospital, Musgrove Park Hospital and Weston General. Mr Barry Duncan FBDO (ABDO) Barry qualified in 1999 having trained with Dollond and Aitchinson. Soon after qualifying he became a distance learning tutor and then in 2003 became a practical examiner. In September 2008, he became President of ABDO. Barry is also on the Executive Committee of Optometry Scotland. Barry has a keen interest in children's dispensing. Self-employed DO locum and ABDO's Member Support Manager. He is an ABDO practical examiner. He has created and delivered many CET workshops and lectures worldwide. The Speakers NIOS Conference 10-11 October 2015 Prof Ted Garway-Heath FRCOphth MD (Moorfields) A world authority on glaucoma and a specialist glaucoma and cataract surgeon, Garway-Heath excels in early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. He sits on several European and international scientific committees and enjoys seeing his research translate into benefits for his patients. ‘Good feedback is one of the best professional rewards’, he says. Prof Augusto Azuara-Blanco PhD FRCS(Ed) FRCOphth (Queen’s University and RVH) Academic career focused in trying to improve patient care and investigating the efficacy, efficiency and safety of new developments for eye diseases. He is chief investigator of an international multicentre RCT comparing primary lens extraction versus laser iridotomy in patients with angle-closure glaucoma and an UK-based multicentre diagnostic study evaluating automated imaging technologies in glaucoma.
