Baseball NSW Newsletter March 2021 Vale Vic Hocking Gentleman & Friend to all We are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Vic Hocking. Vic’s love and support of the game was endless. First involvement with baseball was back in the Early ’80s with Canterbury Bankstown Baseball Club. With his endless support to the club, he became the Patron of the Club which then lead to the Club becoming the Vikings. An absolute gentleman & friend to all that crossed his path. Vic was also the Commissioner of BNSW for some time, again putting his time and effort into helping promote our game. His love and support of the game grew and continued with him serving as the Commissioner of BNSW for several years. Vic also served as the Manager (EO) of the NSW Claxton Shield Team highlighted by 2 Titles in 2004 & 2005. 8
Baseball NSW Newsletter March 2021 National Junior Squad Announcement Baseball Australia has locked in its inaugural National Junior Squad. The squad will take part in a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from April 3-11 as part of Boral Team Australia’s preparations for the 2021 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Florida. It features 17 players from Queensland and Victoria, 15 from New South Wales, nine from Western Australia, two from South Australia and one from the Australian Capital Territory. Players were chosen following an in-depth review of information collected at the National Showcase Series events around the country earlier this year. aseball NSW would like to congratulate B the NSW players that have been selected. A record 21 teams played across eight diamonds, which kept everyone in the action throughout the day. It was a day filled with smiles, laughter, and a sense of comradery. Special thanks go to the Greenway Giants and their numerous volunteers, officials and canteen staff who worked tirelessly to ensure such a successful day. 10

Baseball NSW Newsletter March 2021 Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program Applications open for the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program. NSW sports clubs and councils can apply for a share of $1 million to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). An AED is a life-saving device. It delivers a controlled shock to a person experiencing cardiac arrest, increasing their chances of survival. The Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program provides NSW sports clubs and councils the opportunity to acquire an AED package for their club or sports facility at a reduced cost. The vouchers can be used with any approved Active Kids provider, to help cover costs towards registration or membership fees for sport and active recreation.
