GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 30 UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE Sunday: Dt 4:32-34, 39-40/Ps 33:4-5, 6, 9, 18-19, 20, 22 Let God be who God is. This is often one of the hardest things [12b]/Rom 8:14-17/Mt 28:16-20 to do. Rather than allowing the mystery of being created in the Monday: Zep 3:14-18a or Rom 12:9-16/Is 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6 image and likeness of God unfold and take root in our lives, we [6]/Lk 1:39-56 change the dynamic. We want to be the creators who want to Tuesday: Tb 2:9-14/Ps 112:1-2, 7-8, 9 [cf. 7c]/Mk 12:13-17 make God into the image and likeness we need God to be. We Wednesday: Tb 3:1-11a, 16-17a/Ps 25:2-3, 4-5ab, 6 and 7bc, have a hard-enough time letting the people in our lives be who 8-9 [1]/Mk 12:18-27 they are. We struggle even more so with God. It is almost as if Thursday: Tb 6:10-11; 7:1bcde, 9-17; 8:4-9a/Ps 128:1-2, 3, 4- we want God to be our imaginary friend who is not only with 5 [cf. 1a]/Mk 12:28-34 us whenever we need but becomes the Being we need God to Friday: Tb 11:5-17/Ps 146:1b-2, 6c-7, 8-9a, 9bc-10 [1b]/Mk be. Who is it that we want God to be today? A protector, 12:35-37 disciplinarian, champion for justice, healer, advocate for our Saturday: Tb 12:1, 5-15, 20/Tb 13:2, 6efgh, 7, 8 [1b]/Mk cause, grantor of prayers, guardian of my life, or the avenger? 12:38-44 Our prayers tell an interesting story. When you pray, what does Next Sunday: Ex 24:3-8/Ps 116:12-13, 15-16, 17-18 [13]/Heb God look like? 9:11-15/Mk 14:12-16, 22-26 Recently, a young woman who was feeling invisible, LAS LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA DEL 30 DE MAYO overlooked, ignored, and misunderstood by her husband Domingo: Dt 4, 32-34. 39-40/Sal 32, 4-5. 6. 9. 18-19. 20. 22 struggled to make her feelings known and get his attention. [12]/Rom 8, 14-17/ Finally, she screamed, “Listen to me!” Thus, birth was given to Mt 28, 16-20 a renewed and healthier relationship. We spend so much time Lunes: Sof 3, 14-18 o Rom 12, 9-16/Is 12, 2-3. 4. 5-6 [6]/Lc storming heaven with our agenda and trying to make God into a 1, 39-56 “god” of our desires that we do not hear God saying, “Listen to Martes: Tob 2, 9-14/Sal 111, 1-2. 7-8. 9 [cfr. 7]/Mc 12, 13-17 me!” God is desperately trying to get our attention. God is Miércoles: Tob 3, 1-11. 16-17/Sal 24, 2-3. 4-5. 6 y 7. 8-9 [1]/ saying, I am here among you as not one but three, Father, Son, Mc 12, 18-27 and Holy Spirit. Many people seldom notice God’s presence Jueves: Tob 6, 10-11; 7, 1. 9-17; 8, 4-9/Sal 127, 1-2. 3. 4-5 because they are so caught up with other spiritual cares and [cfr. 1]/Mc 12, 28-34 concerns. And, when the “god” they fashion and create doesn’t Viernes: Tob 11, 5-17/Sal 145, 1-2. 6-7. 8-9. 9-10 [1]/Mc 12, produce as they desire, they shake the dust from their feet and 35-37 move on. “I tried,” they exclaim, “but God didn’t listen.” Sábado: Tob 12, 1. 5-15. 20/Tob 13, 2. 6. 7. 8 [1]/Mc 12, 38- 44 Healthy relationships aren’t built on making someone be who Domingo siguiente: Ex 24, 3-8/Sal 115, 12-13. 15-16. 17-18 we need them to be. Healthy relationships are built on [13]/Heb 9, 11-15/ encounters of persons and the development of an appreciation Mc 14, 12-16. 22-26 of someone solely for who they are.
