So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. — 1 John 4:16a Sunday, March 10, 2019 10:00 am Morning Worship Prelude Adagio from Sonata No. 1 in G Minor J.S. Bach Preparation Ada Carter We focus our hearts and minds in preparation to enter into the life-giving In birth, two people go into a room and three come out. In death, one person goes in and none presence of God. come out. This is a cosmic joke... There are philosophers who take this joke seriously. To their way of thinking, the only option in the face of death - in facing death’s absurd non-face - is to laugh. This is not the bold, humorless laugh of the triumphant atheist, who conquers what he calls death and his own fear of it. No: this is more unhinged. It comes from the powerless, despairing realization that death cannot be conquered, defined, contemplated, or even ap- proached, because it’s not there; it’s only a word, signifying nothing. — Zadie Smith, Dead Man Laughing Death be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure; then from thee, much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul’s delivery. Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell, And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well, And better than thy stroke; why swell’st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die. — John Donne, The Holy Sonnets Prayer (Collect) of Preparation: Deliver us when we draw near to You, from coldness of heart and wanderings of mind: Grant that with steadfast thoughts and kindled affections, we may worship You in Spirit and in Truth. Amen 1

Sunday Mornings Adult Education & Sunday School Classes Every Sunday morning at 8:45am, Christ the King offers classes for adults, youth, and children. The topics of these classes reflect the desire of the church to equip its members with a better understand- ing of God’s Word. Adult Education classes are taught in the social hall. Childcare and classes for chil- dren through Grade 5 are held downstairs, and Middle/High School meets in the office in the balcony. Dealing with Sin in the Church: How do we deal with sin? What do repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation look like practically? How do we confront sin? And what comfort do we have amid so much failure? Join us for a 6-week exploration of these challenging subjects. Children During the Service Children are always welcome in our service. Parents may opt to bring children to the programs below or to the social hall as needed where audio of the service plays and an area is partitioned for nursing mothers.
