Leader: We gather together to remember the story of Jesus, the Lamb. People: We remember Jesus riding into Jerusalem, the palms, the people, the Last Supper, the garden, the arrest and trial, the angry crowds, the suffering and crucifixion, the death. We remember it all. We tell the story in thanksgiving and deep gratitude. Youth: How is this week different than other weeks? Leader: This is the week that Jesus showed us how deep is God’s way of love and forgiveness for us. All: This is the week that Jesus revealed most fully God’s character of love, forgiveness, and nonviolence— the way that leads to life. Today we proclaim his holy life and death. O give thanks to our God, for God is good; God’s steadfast love endures forever! 2
Welcome The Psalm Psalm 31.9-16 Be gracious to me, O God, for I am in distress; my eyes are dim from weeping, my soul is deep with grief. For my life is worn away with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my body has weakened and my bones waste away with misery. All my fears rise up to mock me, my neighbors turn away, my friends dread to see me and flee from my sickness of soul. My mind, too, has left me like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. Yes, I hear the voices around me whispering of my plight— fears rise up on every side! Isolation, rejection, fear surround me and conspire to overwhelm me. Still I trust in you, O God; I repeat, "You are my Life." My life is in your hands; deliver me from the fears which separate me! Let your face shine on me; save me in your steadfast love! —adapted from Psalms for Praying, Nan C. The latest income/expense report has been posted to the church website (under Community, Members). ~ Bruce Fast, BMC Treasurer. BUDGET TIME AGAIN! It is already time to start thinking about your group or committee's budget for the upcoming year (July 2019—June 2020). Please let us know by May 11, what resources your committee will need for the year. ~ MFRC (Ministry of Financial Resources committee: Eldon, Bruce, Becky S., Gary). ECOLOGY TIP OF THE WEEK: Are you beginning to see dandelions popping up in your yard? Those yellow flowers are more than just ‘flags’ alerting us to their locations so can dig them out. Dandelions are often the first and most prolific source of food for bees and other essential pollinators. So it’s best to resist the temptation to spray, pull, or dig them out. And while providing nourishment for pollinators, you can get some yourself by eating the leaves, which are high in vitamins and iron! ~ IN THE LARGER COMMUNITY ~ CELEBRATING AND HONORING INSPIRING WOMEN: EPIC is hosting a campaign to Honor Inspiring Women both in our lives and those in EPIC’s programs. You can send the names of women in your life who have been an inspiration—a mother, daughter, aunt, sister, teacher, pastor—with any size donation to EPIC. If you send an address we will let them know we have honored them. If possible we would like a picture, digital or a print, so 9
we can include them in a photo collage on EPIC web page. We will also create a banner to be displayed at the EPIC Annual Meeting on July 20, 2019. For more details, grab one of the EPIC cards from the lobby welcome table. Thank you for participating! Here’s to strong women, May we know them, May we raise them, May we be them. MOUNTAIN STATES MENNONITE CONFERENCE (MSMC): The April issue of ZING! is available online. You may also pick up a paper copy on the welcome table. For more information about our conference and latest issue of ZING!, go to www.mountainstatesmc.org. Also, MSMC is excited to announce the conference has purchased a subscription to Survey Monkey. THE CENTER FOR CONTEMPLATIVE LIVING, DENVER, welcomes John Philip Newell on May 9 for a talk entitled, 'Boundless: A Celtic Vision of the Sacred in All Things.' Newell is an internationally acclaimed teacher of Celtic Spirituality, which celebrates the essential sacredness of all things. It remembers John the Beloved as leaning against Jesus at the Last Supper. It was said of him in the Celtic world that he therefore heard the heartbeat of God. He became a symbol of the practice of listening deep within ourselves, deep within one another, and deep within the Earth and every creature and life form. We will explore this practice together and the implications of listening for the Sacred at the heart of each moment. Internationally acclaimed Celtic teacher from Edinburgh, Newell is the celebrated author of Listening for the Heartbeat of God: A Celtic Spirituality and founder of the School of Celtic Consciousness. He is one of the prominent Christian teachers of Spirituality in the Western world and has authored over 15 books. Registration is required, online at http://www.contemplativeoutreach-co.org/.
