MARCH 2022 VOLUME 39 · NUMBER 3 · RICHARD BETTINI, PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER · DR. STEPHEN BRADLEY, CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER · DAN GOMES, BOARD CHAIR EXPANDING AND REOPENING OUR EWA – WEST O’AHU COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC SITE We are excited to announce the reopening and expansion of our services at Ewa-West O‘ahu Community Health! Our location at the Child and Family Services Alger Wing will include expanded behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and adults including psychotherapy and medication management. Our team has grown to include four psychologists, one of whom is dually licensed as an APRN-Rx, and two psychiatrists. Most appointments can be provided via telehealth, and in-person appointments may be available as well. A new telehealth kiosk service, CompHealthConnect, will be supported by our Patient Assistance Services staff who will be available to connect folks with insurance coverage and financial, housing, and utility resources, as well as to provide telehealth education and remote patient monitoring. Future plans include the integration of primary care services as well. Waianae Comp Health Center staff and board members held a Blessing and Open House on February 23 with guests from Child and Family Services, AlohaCare, Queen’s Medical Center West Oahu and Kahi Mohala. We look forward to continuing to serve the Ewa-West Oahu community! To schedule an appointment, call (808) 697-3281. SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY EVENTS This year’s 45th Buffalo’s Big Board Surfing Classic held at Makaha Beach honored the memory of Anthony “Ants” Guerrero. Anthony, or as many at our health center called him “Uncle Tony” was a long standing board member and board chair at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. Staff and leadership adored Uncle Tony as he was a wonderful individual and one who helped the health center better serve the Waianae Coast. Staff from across departments and clinics came out for the 2 weekends of the contest to host a free water station for the surf contest participants and families on the beach. This year was unique that staff also helped in screening all competitors for symptoms as requested by the surf organizers. The Health Center wants to extend a big Mahalo to the event planners and the Makaha surf community for letting us be a part of this contest another year. Congratulations to all the competitors!
WELCOME TO OUR NEW PROVIDERS “I was born at Kapiolani Medical Center and raised in Wahiawa. I went from Mililani High School to UH to Columbia University, NYC and to John A. Burns School of Medicine, UH. After grad school in NYC, I was a Child Development specialist in a methadone clinic in Harlem when I heeded a call to take Pre-Med classes. I kept following the call and have now been in Pediatric Practice since 1996, long enough for a lot of the babies I cared for to now be bringing me their own children. Holy cow, yeah, it’s been that long. I come to Waianae Comp by way of Medical Arts Clinic in Wahiawa and then IMUA Health Group in Aiea, to join colleagues that I trained with and have admired greatly from afar over the years. With regard to Waianae Comp, it is a privilege to be part of the workings of the flagship FQHC and to bear witness to its continuing increasing geographical range as it continues to form root-strong therapeutic alliances with patients, versus the disease and suffering it afflicts that threatens to derail personal and familial aspirations. I’m a church choir director so when I meet someone I always want to hear them sing. I love to read, so for me going to used Lucio Pascua, MD book sales is a contact sport. I am happiest when I don an apron, and cookbooks are the only types of books I borrow from Pediatrician Waipahu Family Health Center the library. I met my wife Atina when we were grad students and we have two kids.” To schedule an appointment with Dr. Lucio Pascua who will be working as a full-time Pediatrician out of our Waipahu Family Health Center located at the Fililpino Community (Filcom) Center, please call (808) 697-3888. “I was born and raised in the snowy plains of Minnesota. I have always had a deep connection to healthcare as my amazing mother was paralyzed when she was only 13 years old and we spent our childhood caring for her and going in and out of medical settings. During that time I saw firsthand the importance of caring healthcare providers who listen to their patients. I have lived in Minnesota, NYC, France, Montreal, South Korea, New Jersey, Connecticut and now Oahu. I love traveling, getting outside, riding my bicycle, cooking, baking and eating. I completed my Family Nurse Practitioner training at Yale School of Nursing and did my residency at Community Health Center, Inc., in Connecticut. I love primary care and I have a particular interest in diabetes, women’s health, HIV and transgender care. I chose Waianae Comp because I am passionate about good health care for all people and because it is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been!” To schedule an appointment with Jessica Horstmann, APRN who will be working out of our Adult Medicine Clinic located at our main Waianae location please call (808) 697-3490.
