Nothing inspires a festive, playful, almost magical feeling more than Tchaikovsky’s
Nutcracker. This December, join your Spartanburg Philharmonic and Ballet
Spartanburg for an exceptional performance of this beloved masterpiece of
classical music and ballet. Ballet Spartanburg Artistic Director Carlos Agudelo
brilliantly choreographs each jeté and pirouette. And each playful waltz and trilling
roll of the timpani is deftly led by guest conductor Geneviève Leclair. Together,
they bring Nutcracker to life and create an extraordinary experience that will
          delight audiences of all ages.

Mahler himself once wrote that “A symphony must be like the world. It must contain
everything” and his first is truly a titan of EPIC proportions. Mahler’s Symphony No.
1 tells us a story, one that has you sweeping from a delighted feeling of playfulness
through the shadow of loss, to fully realized triumph and glory. Never before played
by your Spartanburg Philharmonic and led by guest conductor John Young Shik
Concklin, the sheer power and scale of this symphony will leave you feeling inspired
      to take on the world.

Merlefest fan-favorite, The Waybacks, are bringing their unique blend of bluegrass to Spartanburg.
The four-piece draws freely from the old school and the old world, but the Waybacks are no
throwback. They are storytellers and instrumental improvisers with a powerful sound, even drawing
the attention of legend Sam Bush who played mandolin on their 2008 hit Loaded. The Waybacks
don’t frequently travel to the East Coast to play, so don’t miss the chance to see them LIVE.
