Each counselor has been selected for his/her musical abilities as well as his/her strong personal faith and commitment to the Credo mission. In addition to
Page 4 monitoring the residence and supervising group activities, the counselors will be available as music practice coaches. PHONES: Participants’ rooms do not have phone service. Counselors have phones for emergencies. Urgent messages from home can be delivered to campers through the Oberlin College Conference Services Information Center at (440)775-5130 from 7:30 am to midnight, or through Residential Director Mike Sabatka (585-727-9840) from midnight to 7:30 am. Credo Office will be open limited hours during camp – (440) 774-3658. A handy contact information sheet is on page 9 of this information packet. (Please note: Students are allowed to have cell phones at camp, with the understanding that Credo is predicated on the idea of building community. Extensive use of cell phones decreases the quality of the students’ experience within the Credo community. Credo staff reserves the right to restrict student use of cell phones.) SECURITY: All participants will be expected to remain on campus grounds unless on a group activity with chaperones. Dormitory building doors are locked AT ALL TIMES. Entry to the dormitory is possible only by using the Credo key card/ID card which students receive at check- in. (This card will also allow access to facilities at the Recreation Center.) No other individuals or groups on campus will have access to our building. Campus Security maintains regular campus patrols, with a special focus on areas in use by guest groups. Campus Security does not carry firearms. Note: Campers are responsible for personal items and should keep their room doors locked. CAMP RULES: Please read carefully the Credo Expectations form sign it and return to us by June 1. HEALTH/EMERGENCY FORM: All Credo participants are required to have this form on file with camp staff. Please return the form by June 1. Please remember to include a photocopy of BOTH SIDES of your health insurance card. MEALS: All meals for residential campers will be provided by Credo. A vegetarian option is available at every meal. Special meals will be planned to coincide with scheduled activities and service projects. Mid-morning snacks will be available. (Please note: no food is allowed in the guest rooms - leave your snack foods at home!) If you have any special dietary needs/allergies, please indicate on the Request Form. LAUNDRY: There are free laundry facilities in the Oberlin dormitory (not in Chicago.) Credo will provide bedding and linens, with the exception of items on the Packing List.
Page 5 REPAIRS/SUPPLIES/INSTRUMENT: We suggest that students come to camp with their instruments in good playing condition, with recent bow rehairs and extra strings. However, since “situations” do happen with instruments, Credo students will have the opportunity to obtain needed repairs and supplies during the festival. A local luthier will be able to make a few visits to Oberlin to perform simple repairs. Parents will be contacted to approve repairs and will be billed for services over $50 after they are performed. Bein and Fushi and W.H. Lee will give students the opportunity to acquaint themselves with options of instruments for future purchase. SERVICE PROJECTS: All Credo students will participate in Thursday service project days July 11 and July 18. (Chicago participants will have additional service days during the third week.) These projects will include “outreach” musical performances, helping local organizations and other volunteer activities. All projects will be supervised and chaperoned by Credo staff. Parents: if you live in the area – WE NEED YOUR HELP – please volunteer to drive for a service project on the Request Form. LEISURE ACTIVITIES: Students can use the facilities at the Oberlin College Recreation Center (gym, track, pool). Credo students will enjoy as well as a bowling night, and a “paint the rock/bonfire” night. (An Oberlin College tradition is to decorate and paint messages on a huge boulder in Tappan Square, in the center of campus.) TRANSPORTATION DURING CREDO: All transportation to concerts, service projects and other group activities will be provided by Credo. Laws regarding drivers, insurance, number of passengers and safety belt use will be strictly enforced. (Local parents – if you can be a driver on our service days, be sure to indicate that on the Request Form!) T-SHIRTS: Credo shirts will be provided free of charge to each student at check-in. These shirts will be worn for some group activities off-campus, and will be your memento to keep! (T- shirts for other family members as well as alumni shirts can be purchased at concerts.) PARENTS/FAMILY/FRIENDS: We encourage you to attend Credo faculty and student performances if you are in the area! The concert schedule is on our website, credomusic.org. Also, for daily updates and photos during camp, check out the Credo Music Facebook page.
