Little Phoenix The Newsletter of Yarm Pre-Prep Number 312 Mrs Speight’s message ... 11th December 2020 My penultimate newsletter this term has given me the opportunity to write about the privilege of being with the children in the lead up to Christmas. I’m feeling festive as I write this wearing both my Brussel sprouts headband and Christmas jumper. My PE lesson on Thursday ended with a rendition of Jingle Bells and the children were eager to tell me where the Santa Cams were located in the Games Hall. Later, I toured a family with a small baby who loved the children’s learning environment. They described it as nurturing and cosy, a fantastic place with so many opportunities to learn. They were also impressed with the Year 2’s cursive handwriting and the most generous donations for Little Sprouts and the Foodbanks. Thank you again so much for your kindness and generosity. In Pre-Prep we think of others and you have certainly demonstrated this with the array of goodies you have provided for people who are less fortunate than ourselves. Have a wonderful weekend and from the chorus of that famous song...Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow. Warmest wishes, Follow me on twitter: @YarmPrePrep
Born in a Barn We were blown away by the children's lovely singing and acting as they retold the story of the Nativity. Cockerels were crowing, owls were hooting and cows were moo-ing. The children have had such fun producing our play together, we know you will enjoy watching it at home with a mince pie!
Budding Scientists In Year 2, there is always a wide range of subjects on offer from art to science which the children encounter every week. Alongside our busy and hectic rehearsal schedule, the children have still benefited from their usual specialist teacher lessons. In science, the children have been learning about a healthy lifestyle which included a lesson talking about George Washington-Carver, an eminent scientist from the 20th century. This term culminated in the planning of an investigation with the aim of finding out ‘which is the best surface to run on?’ Equipped with clipboards and stop watches, our intrepid budding scientists set off to the Prep School to complete their investigation. The results showed that the Astro is the best surface on which to run and there was much discussion and hypothesising about why this was the case. Perhaps one day we shall have our own homegrown eminent scientist from the class of Year 2, 2020?
Festive Fun The Nursery children have been getting in the festive spirit and creating lots of lovely Christmas crafts. They have used glue, glitter and paint to make a Christmas card and a tree decoration. They are looking forward to taking home their precious creations.
‘Bundle of Joy’ The children in Reception discovered a particularly special 'Bundle of Joy' as they retold the story of the Nativity and learned about Jesus' birth. They were excited to dress in their costumes and perform in front of the camera for what proved to be a very humorous show about a VERY grumpy donkey!
