Saturday Partners tours – we have 2 options for you. Saturday Option A – the Historic Seddon Trail. This will also start at the Carnegie Building and your guide will then take you on a tour of the various memorials with specific links to Seddon. Richard John Seddon (22 June 1845 – 10 June 1906) was a British-born New Zealand statesman who served as the 15th Premier (Prime Minister) of New Zealand from 1893 until his death in office in 1906. In office for thirteen years, Seddon is to date the country's longest- serving head of government. Sometimes derisively known as "King Dick" for his autocratic style, he has nonetheless been lauded as one of the greatest, most influential and widest-known politicians in New Zealand history. The tour will include information around his gold mining and publican days. Footwear – ensure you are wearing comfortable shoes. We can also accommodate the less abled with 2 off road wheelchairs available. Please make us aware of any disabilities with your registration form so we can assist you. Wet or fine – so bring wet weather gear please. Minimum numbers 10 Saturday Option B – This is slightly more energetic and expensive as you will need to pay entry to the tree top walkway (included in the tour price). We have negotiated a 30% reduction in the entry fee. Leaves from the Regent Theatre. You will be transported to the tree top walkway and then taken to Hokitika Gorge to discover the new walkway. Wet or fine – so bring wet weather gear please. Minimum numbers 10 Sunday – Tour of the Stafford Cemetery Restoration project. This tour is free of charge, but you will need your own transport. We will also need to know numbers in case we need to arrange a shuttle from the road parking area to the cemetery as parking is very limited. This is a project that Hokitika Lions started in 2017 and has slowly progressed with restoration of grave sites, headstones and removal of invasive vegetation. This would be of interest to anyone involved in or considering a memorial restoration project – or if you’d like to know more about the country’s
4 history including a few notes on gravestone symbolism – what the roses, angels and broken flowers actually mean. If wet, bring an umbrella and decent walking shoes are a must wet or dry. Saturday dance – A three course meal and late supper is included in the price of the dance. A cash bar will be available, no BYO please as our special licence does not permit BYO. Come in costume if you wish. Our theme is ‘Wear your Wild’ - let your imagination run wild. Wildfoods is Hokitika’s premiere festival. 2019 is our 30th Anniversary and promises to be bigger and better. Part of the festival is the feral fashion parade – our dinner theme allows you to prepare your costume in advance!
