MAY 2019: EVENTS SCHEDULE This Project has received a “Special Recognition” Award from HRH The Prince of Wales Supported by:
WHO WE ARE?: Hampshire Youth Project is run by Enable Ability and funded by various grant funders for young people aged 16-25 years living in South East Hampshire; areas include Emsworth, Havant, Hayling Island, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Eastleigh, Petersfield and surrounding districts. We only accept young people living in Portsmouth if they attend a Hampshire school or college. The project aims to provide young people with physical and/or mild-moderate learning disability, or additional need, with the opportunity to engage in a variety of planned recreational, social and sporting activities as part of a group setting. This enables young people to interact and socialise with other peers on a weekly basis. Activities are designed to improve pivotal life skills for all young people; including building their confidence & self-esteem, independence, communications and multitasking skills, to name a few. Hampshire Youth Project staff are trained to support young people and accommodate their needs during each activity, regardless of their level of ability; physical or otherwise. Activities for the project include social clubs, going out for meals, going to the cinema, ten pin bowling, art and crafts activities, baking/cooking, sports and general socialising, as well as supported volunteering and work experience. We also arrange a variety of day trips outside of the local area for any museums, theatres or theme parks. Once a referral to our project has been made – this can be by a parent, carer, the young person themselves or a professional – we arrange a home visit to meet the family and have a chat about our Project and what we can offer. A minibus service is also provided to accommodate for long distance trips. All activities for the project do take place on weekends, usually on Saturdays with the occasional Sunday and weekday evening. There is no obligation to attend all activities; parents and carers are free to register their young person for as many activities as they would like. EXCITING NEWS!!! Hampshire Youth Project has been offered the opportunity to volunteer at the Southwick D-Day Revival on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June 2019. The website for more details are here: https://www.southwickrevival.co.uk/ It's time to dig out that 1940's fancy dress costume! For the sixth year running, the village of Southwick is joining in partnership with Southwick Park to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day by offering an exciting and unique opportunity for visitors from all over the world to breathe in the atmosphere of those historic days at the nerve-centre of Operation Overlord. For one weekend a year, the village of Southwick (near Wickham) reverts back to being a 1940's village. Everyone dresses up in vintage clothing and gets into the spirit of what it would of been like in war-torn Britain in the 1940's. We have been offered the opportunity to be volunteers for the day, with the chance afterwards to enjoy the Revival and see all the sights for free. For now, please let us know if you would like to take part and please keep the date free in your diaries - parents & carers are welcome to join us for the final part of each day.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Please let us know your young person’s choice of activities as soon as possible by sending us a reply by email. Alternatively, give us a ring or a text on the number below. Please reply as soon as possible, as places are often restricted and this makes the planning required for the activity very difficult if we do not know the numbers in advance. When your reply has been received, we will notify you by email or phone to confirm your booking. If you wish to attend and have not received confirmation, then please contact us directly.
