LADYSMITH Public School Principal: Helen Sturman Term 1 Week 8, 2019 Student success through an innovative quality education. SAY YES TO RESPECT On Friday we had a focus on respecting each other. We discovered that when you are respectful everyone is happier. We all have a responsibility to ourselves and others to understand how they are feeling, what they are doing is important to them as well if we are happy then we are more likely to respect others. Because we came dressed in green, not only because St Patrick’s day was Sunday. It gave everyone a chance to dress as they felt comfortable and for us to accept their choices. We will continue to promote respect as the year progresses. A proud member of Wagga Wagga Community of Small Schools
WORMING RECORDER PRACTICE CONTINUES A little reminder that if your child isn’t feeling 100% or is not sleeping well it may be time to worm your whole family. On Friday Jennifer Gollasch joined us for some more If your child has worms, they may: recorder practice and violin for Zoe. The students are making great progress. LEARNING WITH MS STURMAN This week learning has been focused on our local culture with speeches being written for the public speaking aspect of our learning. This has linked in with our STEM unit, KaPOW learning as well as multiculturalism with an Aboriginal perspective. Ms Rogers is assisting in the maths area of learning, this has been interrupted with the KaPOW sessions which enhance maths and LEARNING WITH MR GORDON expands our understanding of the Aboriginal perspective of our environment through art. Last week and this week in Mr Gordon’s class we have had Mrs Rogers our prac student from CSU teaching us about descriptive writing for speeches and editing our work. We are enjoy- ing learning with Mrs Rogers as she has taught the class a new drama game to help them role play. Students are pretending they are sitting on a bus and pretending that they are a person who just got on the bus, and the students are to have a conversation in character. All students enjoyed the persona’s they played. We look forward to the next three weeks with Ms Rogers. This week, we have had people come from the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery to present the Kids and Print Outreach Workshop (KAPOW). The students are learning about the skills for printing and the different types of printing. Students were able to take turns using a printing press and experimented with printing using plates. There were some interesting designs.
LEARNING WITH MRS D The big highlight for this is week are the KaPOW art workshops. In yesterday’s session the children were very excited to be working on art for all of the morning! The instructors from the art gallery showed and discussed with us, an aboriginal artwork and then we began constructing our own. The tearing of the paper was a bit tricky but we all did a great job. The children were very interested in the press and once we had inked up our images we all got a chance to turn the press. Our prints were amazing. The vegie garden is coming to life and the vegies are beginning to flourish. Our measurement activity with the tomatoes is providing us with some interesting results Table of measurements Hopefully we may soon be harvesting some tomatoes, lettuce and basil to make some yummy salads.
