Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Profit Catalogue 40000 Café Profit 35000 Visitor Entry ** 30000 Sponsorship * Raffle 25000 Commission 20000 Artist Entries 15000 **Includes Est $ for 10000 Art & Roses Tours * Sponsorship (less 5000 Awards) 0 2016 2017 2018 2019 2021 • Artist Entries continue strongly, with in total entries up (sculpture) and $ charged from $10 to $15. • Commission increased with sales very strong. Averaged $15,000 in 2017-19, this year $31,600. • Sponsorship continues to strengthen with extra sponsors and increased charges for sponsorship. • ‘Event Visitation’ increased, and positive result for Raffle sales. Need to maintain profit growth.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Artistic Values • Artistic Director, Helen Miles, along with Cheryl Eve and the Art Society Team achieved an impressive exhibition. Three Judges: Painting Linda Weil, Photography Ray Fagg and Sculpture Gillian Govan. • High number of entries in total ... 386 across all categories (13% increase) and the quality maintained, with average price per entry high, particularly in Sculpture. • A record level of sales. In previous years 10 – 12 % of entries were sold, whereas this year the figure was 17% for paintings, 23% for Photography and 15% for Sculpture. • Very positive comments from most visitors, sponsors and artists about the Award Winner – Best in Show Interesting exhibits and the presentation. Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Artistic Values • Chris Anderson initiated our new Sculpture Section, which was very well received . • To include this – no glass art, woodwork, craft or prints were displayed in this 2021 Art Expo. • Committee has agreed to include Sculpture in 2022. Experience in 2021 will help improve the use of the whole exhibition space. Best Sculpture – ‘Drinking Giraffe’ • Plan to increase specific Sculpture Awards Artist: Aukje VanVark e.g. Youth and Australian Wildlife. • Photography was again included in the exhibition and this year saw increased entries and photography sales were popular. • Major disappointment was no Youth Award entries in Photography and Youth Painting entries also low this year. Agreed to have a specific plan to promote this for 2022. Part of Sculpture Display
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Entries / Pickup • Administration for painting Delivery ran smoothly. Art Society team did a great job receiving & hanging paintings, photos and organising sculpture before the Expo. • Trish Heaslip managed receipt of Entry Forms. Many are submitted electronically & payment by direct debit, but manual system for admin at collection and artist payments. Art Society team received and hung 288 Paintings, • Have agreed to investigate Gallery 24/7 and 51 Photographs and displayed 47 Sculpture entries. other web based / computer based systems for entry / collection / payments to artists. • Art collection process at close of Expo was reasonably good for buyers, BUT need to have greater control over runners and queuing / collection unsold work by artists. • Dismantling of displays and packing up of stands / electronics completed in good time.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Catalogue • Catalogue compiled by Cheryl Eve and Trish Heaslip and they also organised the systems for receipt of entries and sales. • The work involved in encouraging advertisers for catalogue and getting payment is very hard. The system / approach will be reviewed in 2022. • Catalogue Advertising $ revenue similar to 2019 at $2,800. This more than covers printing costs at $1,265. Importantly: Catalogues are given to each Visitor on Involves local businesses arrival at the Hall, along with People’s Choice selection and Door Prize Ticket. Need to give all businesses a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Art Sales • Sales Desk was controlled by a team from The Art Society and Treasurer Geoff Burgess for the weekend. • The entries and sales procedures needs improvement to achieve smooth administration of sales. • Paintings Sales were 71% higher than 2019. Record 17% entries were sold. • Photography sales were also a record, with 12 out of the 51 entries sold - this is 24% of entries. Sales Desk: Lorraine Nagle, Frances Natanni and Trish Heaslip, along with Geoff • As a new section, Sculpture was a Burgess were busy throughout Expo great success, with 7 of the 47 entries sold - this represents 15%.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Preview Night • No formal presentation was conducted, due to COVID restrictions (to avoid crowding). • Award winning art work, along with the Sponsor’s logo were shown in a large continuous visual presentation on stage. • There was still the opportunity to enjoy excellent art, live music from classical guitarist Alejandro Aguanta, great food and good company. • The Committee, Artists and Sponsors were all thanked. The event was well received & Simon Doyle, Rotary Preview Night 2021 President, did a great job as M.C. Featured classical guitarist Alejandro Aguanta • Attendance count was estimated at 150 – 170, slightly higher than 2019.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Preview Night • Opening Night catered for by Tony Cozzolino and his team. The bar was operated by Peter Jackson – ably supported by Trevor and Bob. • Again several Kilmore International School students acted as serving staff. Guest Judge for Sculpture, Gillian Govan, officially opened the Expo and spoke briefly on the new Sculpture Section and the merits of the winning ‘Best in Show’ artwork.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Logistics • Set up of Hall: Efficient installation of stands and lighting again this year. All finished on Monday (except rearranging Supper Room). • Stands & Lights: All our own lights were used, but need to assess support for lights in Supper Room. Logistics Team was led by Rotary’s Noel • Last two years has been quicker Baker, Tony Cozzolino and Gary Gradsack. hanging, due to new hanging system. This gives more time for assessing space, positions, hanging and judging. • Now independent with equipment, but need new supports for lighting in Supper Room, safer hooks for artwork at top of stands and to repair /replace covers before next year.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Raffle Raffle Prize 2021: Title: ‘Mill Street’ Acrylic Painting by Jayne Henderson Valued at $1,200 • 2021 Ticket Sales were $4,513 … higher than recent years …. in 2019 ($3,234), 2018 ($4,039) and matching the record set in 2017 $4,578 • Ros Stewart led the Raffle Campaign. We achieved the record with a large team of supporters, using a range of locations and markets. • Future plan is to sell books to local businesses and in more markets, locations.

Daytime Visitors was not recorded separately on Eftpos machine and counter numbers not consistently taken. NOTE: Admission prices increased in 2019, from $20 to $25 for Award Night and Daytime Price from $7 from $5 (Concession $4 from $3), so this $ increase very positive. • Analysis from postcodes, shows 33% from outside Mitchell Shire, compared with 10% in 2019 - again positive result. Roslyn Stewart to update Visitor Database. • Denise & Lorraine to develop communication in non-traditional and social media.

Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Sponsors Platinum Sponsor • Total Sponsorship this year was $20,469 – with revenue $19,969 and ‘in kind’ $500. Major Sponsors Higher than the previous two years. • Our largest sponsor Kilmore Racing Club, upgraded to Platinum Sponsor and made verbal commitment for several years. • New Sponsor of Sculpture Expo - Inland Rail equivalent to Gold Sponsor, with Major Sponsor and Supporters cost up. • Several other sponsors again this year - Metro Freight Lines, Lavender Hill Farm, Val & David Corke. • Also sponsors in kind, provided Framing Supporters vouchers (Kilmore Picture Framers and Milners Framing Broadford) along with 2 X Nestle Gift baskets valued at $200 each.
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Publicity • Further develop on-line media to communicate with artists and potential visitors. Website: well maintained by Lorraine Nagel Facebook page: active with Denise Daday Need to develop – update thro’ the year. • Review media cost for 2022. Review for future: Retail flyers / postcards (Retail posters?) Road signage / Shire Event signs Street signs last week, A Frames /flags / truck NCR / Macedon Ranges press advert Pre-publicity editorial in local press School newsletters / community newsletters Local community radio • Update / review current Visitor Database and Review advertising & promotion – remix?? develop to encourage /communicate via email to existing visitors, buyers and patrons. • Publicity subcommittee to be created for 2022.
2021 Kilmore Busking Championships The Australian National Busking Championships …. The National organization ‘ANBC’ : • Formed in Cooma, 8 years ago - now in 13 regional towns through NSW, Qld & Vic is an annual event. • Some cost, but ANBC membership gives national publicity, attracts visitors & quality competitors. What happens on the day? • ‘Busking Spots’ chosen with consent of business. • Buskers register from February, given program of times & ‘spots’. Judges roam around to assess. • ‘Busking Votes’ $1 sold to spectators to also vote. • A free ‘Finals Concert’ at the end of the day. Prizes In various categories. Range $1,000 - $50 Costs for 2021 ? • Annual Registration is $1,000 + 10% of busking votes sold. Other costs minimal as promotion via Facebook. This year part of ‘Truck’ street advert. • Most expenditure is in performer prize money. • Income $10,952 , Costs $11,547 Loss of $595
2021 Kilmore Busking Championships The Judges: • One supplied by ANBC (at low rate) • Two local Judges (no fees) Event was organized by: • Team led by Rose King and including Denise Daday, Steve Ansell and 6 community volunteers. • Steve providing artwork and promotion. The Results: • Performers enjoyed the day - was well organized. • Spectators enjoyed the day and asked when/ it would happen again. • Enthusiastic feedback, both businesses and local residents. • Successful Finals Concert at Trackside 4 - 6pm. Very well attended. Future plans for the event …. • Will be an annual event. Over time, we expect to grow event in size and profits. Committee exploring other activities for the weekend, particularly closer affiliation with other organisations e.g. Sporting Clubs and Scouts.

Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Future Plans • Develop ‘Event Visitation’ for Art Expo: Encourage / attract more ‘high value’ art buyers. Develop database of existing visitors / patrons. Use website / social media for potential visitors. Analysis of visitor database will allow direct communication with existing patrons and art buyers. • Add new ideas - something new each year: Continue Busking Championships & expand Create Festival atmosphere adding more weekend attractions to ‘Celebrate the Art, the Music and the History of Kilmore’ Explore grants for ‘Visitor Tours / Attractions’. • More and larger Sponsors / Supporters needed: New sculpture awards (e.g. Native Wildlife, Youth) A partner to develop ‘Visitor Tours / Attractions’ Creating a splash in Kilmore !! Art Expo Committee needs new members!!! For new ideas & rotate responsibilities
Kilmore Art Expo 2021: Future Plans • It is with great regret that the Committee accept the resignation Peter Appleton (Treasurer) but we welcome Geoff Burgess - our new Treasurer. We thank Peter sincerely for his dedication, support & contribution to the success of this event over many years. • New and existing Art Society members have volunteered to explore and use the proposed new software to transition to an on-line entry & exhibition administration system. • Committee exploring other activities for the weekend, particularly closer affiliation with other organisations e.g. Sporting Clubs and Scouts.
