Ray Pantlin v Ian Chatterton
Ray Pantlin played Ian Chatterton in the 2nd round of singles
competition with Ian off to a flying start to lead 10 shots to nil by the 5th
end. It certainly wasn’t one sided with Ray playing some great bowls that
just missed the mark with Ian leading 14 shots to Ray’s 4 by the 10th end.
By the 17th end Ian was ahead 21 shots to 8. Not one to give in easy Ray
performed a comeback winning the next 3 ends. Scores were now Ian 21
shots to Ray’s 15. To Ian’s credit he saw off the challenge winning the
next 2 ends to win the match 25 shots to Ray’s 15. It was a terrific battle
with some great bowls being played.
SEMI FINALS
Miles Allen v Jim Wiedman
Our first Semi Final of the 2018 Men’s Singles Club Championship saw
Miles Allen taking on Jim Wiedman in what promised to be a close
contest. True to forecast by the 5th end Jim was ahead 5 shots to Miles
4 shots. By end 10 Jim was just ahead 9 shots to Mile’s 8 shots. The
tables turned over the next 6 ends with Miles now ahead 15 shots to
Jim’s 10 shots. In what was proving both entertaining for spectators and
fabulous bowls by both players scores were locked up at 18 shots a
piece by the 25th end. Jim took the lead once again to lead 24 shots to
Mile’s 19 shots by the 30th end. Continuing the brilliant bowls saw the
scores locked up at 24 shots each on the 33rd end. It was down to
crunch time on the final end in a fabulous display of skill, perseverance
and never give in attitude where both bowlers deserved to win. Jim took
the final end to win 25 shots to Mile’s 24.

2018 Ladies Singles Competition
SEMI FINALS
Judith Lees v Margaret Ginns
Our first Semi Final of the 2018 Ladies Singles Club Championship saw
Margaret Ginns taking on Judith Lees on a glorious Maleny day for lawn
bowls. In the early ends both ladies were playing great bowls with
Margaret leading 3 shots to Judith’s 2 shots by end 4. Scores were still
close on end 6 with Margaret narrowly ahead 5 shots to Judith’s 3 shots.
Margaret then took control and by
end 11 was leading 14 shots to
Judith’s 4 shots. Margaret proved
too dominant on the day and by
end 18 had won the game 25 shots
to Judith’s 4 shots. Well played
Margaret & Judith, the score was
not a real reflection of the game
with some great bowls played.

Congratulations to Maleny Bowls Clubs Twilight Challenge Season 1
2018 winners The Handles - Ray Ellmore, Tom Ukkola & Miles Allen.
The extended season (due to rain) saw some terrific contests on the
bowls green on Wednesday evenings with the victors not decided until
the final round of competition.
Wednesday Twilight Bowls is social triples competition.
6:00pm BBQ 6:30pm start bowling 8:30pm games finish
followed by fun presentations - 9:00pm event completed
Cost is $13 includes BBQ Burger, Green Fees and Bowls supplied.

Maleny Bowls Clubs new relationship with Q Clubs and Australian Liquor
Marketers allows us to stock a range of wines that are available from
on-premise venues only - not available through bottle shops.
To help decide what wines we will stock we are seeking feedback from
members through free wine tastings at the club.

Our monthly Board meeting was held on Monday 11 June 2018 with
Graeme Glover, Jim Wiedman, Dennis Kyling, Judith Lees and Brett Gillis
in attendance.
Apology: Bryan Fripp, Kay Gesch, Joe Walters.
Items discussed and actioned include:
● Club Insurance
Upgrades to electrical circuit board and associated works helped
contribute to a reduction in our Insurance premium for 2018 by
12.7%.
● Future Green Maintenance
Funds accrued from use of club’s facilities by school students e.g.
River School be earmarked for future green maintenance.
● Keg Beer Sales
First month of sales saw XXXX Gold 81% of keg, XXXX Bitter 67%,
Hahn Super Dry 40% and Hahn Premium Light 5% of keg which
equates to 2 full kegs sold.
We have seen a 63% Reduction in stubby sales and associated
waste as well as time savings in having to restock fridges.
● Coffee / Tea Machine for Bar Area
We have introduced a Coffee Machine at the Bar area with
capsules selling for $2 each.
● Wet Weather Wednesdays
A positive response from Twilight bowlers will see us introducing
alternative inside activities on nights when rain washes out lawn
bowls games.

● Wine List We will conduct free Wine Tastings to gauge preference for wines to be included in our new wine list. Tuesday 3 July 1pm to 2pm - De Bortoli Wines Friday 13 July 6pm to 8pm - Range of Wines available through Australian Liquor Marketers. ● Stereo & PA System Investigate suitable systems and purchase Stereo & PA System. ● Maleny Primary School Students Free after school activity (3pm to 4pm on a Thursday) with Maleny Primary School students will commence 26 July 2018 (for 8 weeks) and is open to Prep to Year 6 students. Register at the school. ● WorkPlace Health and Safety Issues WHS Manual that has been diligently compiled and updated to reflect Emergency Procedures, Armed Robbery and Fire/Evacuation Plan by Dennis Kyling is now complete and will be adopted as club policy. ● NBN Services Expected NBN connection available 6 July 2018 - to investigate suitable service providers to upgrade phone and internet services. ● Tom Jollow and Glen Walker approved as new Full Members.
