CARLTON CORNWALL CORNER NEW ZEALAND BLIND BOWLS CHAMPIONSHIP On November 26th and 27th the 2018 National Blind Bowlers Championship was held at Burnside Bowling Club. Our members Glenn Hanneman with director Bernard Yeo had an outstanding competition coming away with the gold medal in the B1 Singles championship. The two ended their event being unbeaten and soaring through with a +102 differential playing 6 rounds. David Stallard with director Helen Stallard competed in the B3 Singles. David won 4/5 singles rounds, and it was Danny Simon who managed to take away his winning streak. In the B3 Singles Championship, the top two advanced through to the final, so the final saw a rematch between Stallard and Simon. Having a tight game, David managed to grab the title by winning 17-16. Congratulation to you all on an outstanding performance. PRE-NATIONALS HAM TOURNAMENT SUCCESS With many thanks to our sponsor Advanced Housing Systems, the Pre-Nationals Ham Tournament was a successful day on the green. The sun came out to shine, the hams and chickens were ready to given away and the bowlers were ready to enjoy our wonderful facilities. There were 5 rounds of 1hr 15min pairs to be played, and they were playing off for the sweetest prize of them all before Christmas - hams! Garry Lawrence and Grant Keats (Carlton Cornwall) were the overall winners of the day, with Bev Crowe and Hetty Bolcher (Carlton Cornwall) coming in second, walking away with full sized hams each. For those that weren't in the contention for the top prizes, there were more hams to be handed out to third, fourth and fifth place. And if the teams weren't in contention to placing in the top 5 - each top round winners came away with chickens. The success of the day wouldn't have been possible without Advanced Housing Systems support. You can find out more about them by checking out their website. https://www.advancedhousing.co.nz/

Last Saturday was the final round of the competition, and we are delighted to announce that our Women's Premier Division has secured the number one position for the second year in a row. CARLTON CORNWALL CORNER Over the last couple of months, Bowls New Zealand consulted with members, clubs and centres, on a return to a New Zealand ‘Champion of Champions’ competition. In listening to early feedback, it became obvious that Bowls NZ should re-establish a ‘pathway’ for the club bowler to achieve a New Zealand title. Champion of Champions: Each centre would have, by the conclusion of the 2018/2019 season, determined their centre champion(s). • The centre champion would be the winner of their ‘club champion of champions’. • The 2018/2019 centre champions would be invited to a New Zealand ‘Champion of Champions’ series July 2019. • The July finals series competition would be played at a covered green facility. • The 2019 Champion of Champions Series will be: o Singles: Women’s and Men’s: July 5-7, 2019 o Pairs: Women’s and Men’s: July 12-14, 2019 o Fours: Women’s: July 19-21, 2019 o Fours: Men’s: July 26-28, 2019 - If this event is successful in 2019, Bowls New Zealand may look to add the disciplines of Triples and Mixed Pairs. - Equally, if this event is successful and centres are supportive, then this Champ of Champions concept could be extended to a Junior and/or Masters section. North V South Fixture Bowls New Zealand is pleased to announce the return of a North Island v South Island fixture for 2019. This event will take place on Thursday 21st March (5pm) in Auckland, the evening prior to the commencement of the National Intercentre competition. Players from the North and South Islands will be selected to play in the following disciplines: - Women’s Singles - Men’s Singles - Women’s Pairs - Men’s Pairs - Women’s Fours - Men’s Fours Over the next couple of months, Kaushik Patel (High Performance Mgr) will announce the Coach/Selectors for these two sides. More details on this fixture will follow from then. The club is pleased to welcome 20 new members so far this season.
